I guess I didn't read it that way. And NH is a different animal than what you and I would consider rural. Rural voters suffer from neglect. They already don't get the attention of the Metropolitan areas, and Republicans frame themselves as the working persons advocate.

Obama won my rural, nearly lily-white county in Iowa and most of the ones around ours both times, but Dems don't even *try* to field candidates for legislature here anymore. Iowa has gone red more because the IDP doesn't try than because Iowans have moved right.

I remember the fifty state strategy that Howard Dean promoted, and had great success with in 2008. I hate the fact that Dems abandoned that strategy and gave so little resources to rural regions. Dems didn’t even contest some elections. What message does that telegraph to rural voters?

In my rural county, the NCGA passed a bill in 2023 that impacted one county - mine - and gerrymandered it so that we can only vote for 1 of the 5 commissioners (we were able to vote for all 5 prior to this state law.)

Commission went from Dem majority to 100% GOP. Not sure how to overcome that.

PFAS in ground water, lack of housing and childcare, food deserts and insecurity, cost of higher ed and medicine, meth, WiFi access, road and bridge infrastructure, veteran and elderly services. These are the main issues in my rural area. Dems won’t even run for office here…been red since WWII.

I grew up in Iowa. This used to very much be a purple state. The GOP is responsible for its own sins. But Democratic "leaders" are responsible for listening to Bill Clinton et al's siren song in the 1990s, abandoning the working class and rural people, of all colors.
