Grew up in St. Louis but I’ve lived in Texas past 52 years. Standing up and talking back has begun to work in big cities like Houston, Dallas and Austin but we’re still outnumbered by good old boys, rednecks and evangelicals state-wide. 😒

The HVAC techs were in our house today. We talked about how they pay 2000$/month rent and do not have health insurance! I casually said that we don't have to live like this and they agreed w/ me. From he way they talked, I thought they were progressives until they said that's why they voted Trump!
I think we have a lot of work ahead of us. A lot of people feel left behind. I talked about universal basic income, universal healthcare, and asked them to think about what kind of world they want for their kids. I also asked them if they ever read news instead of listening to it. Small steps?

It was a shocking moment for me. They honestly think they voted for cheaper rents, health care, lower prices, etc. They want healthcare to be affordable. They even mentioned public transportation and how other countries are better because of it!

Yes, in Missouri (or what I like to call Misery) job salaries are very low. Our daughter would love to move here to be closer to family but as a nurse she wouldn't make near as much as she does now. :( I think the the politicians like their constituents dumb and poor.

I realized some years ago that the inability to turn off one's ears was deleterious. That READING permitted greater access to critical thinking.
Which is why churches want folks in pews. Hard to turn off ears.
Since 2016 or so, I've seldom watched a news or pundit program (I love Rachel Maddow and Laurence O'Donnel) and if I do, it's with captioning.
