It’s also his first non-franchise film since his (really quite good) debut feature Fruitvale Station. His film career has been going from a Rocky sequel to Marvel movies. Really was time for a ‘For Me’ uh there.

As someone who's listened to a ton of interviews with Coogler, I hope people don't misunderstand this headline.
Coogler's been very open that he made Sinners after spending four years on Wakanda Forever, needing a break from franchise filmmaking.
Not that he -hates- franchise filmmaking.
