In May 2024, ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan seeks arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant for war crimes in Gaza and, almost magically around the same period, Khan is accused of sexual misconduct.

Khan was VERY much wanted in the position, by UK, USA AND ISRAEL, mainly on the strength of prosecutions of ISIS/Daiesh (sp?), which were perceived as favourable for USA/Israeli interests. Of course, when he started investigating USA war crimes etc., his favourabilty waned somewhat.

I will say an interesting data point was Italy not willing to provide safe passage for Netanyahu for the papal mass. One of the more *amenable* European executives for Trump felt a squeeze there.

Possible reasons Netanyahu wasn't at Pope's funeral: Francis was very critical of Gaza assault, popular position in Italy. Meloni would have faced domestic blowback for not enforcing the warrant, but Trump blowback if she did. Netanyahu wasn't sorry Francis was dead. Easy call for both of them.

This is excellent news, but what concerns me is the manner of enforcement. The ICC and the ICJ both need some militarized means of detaining people they've issued warrants against, because relying on state signatories clearly isn't working out very well at all.
