Be happy for those who dig themselves out of poverty. They are just like those before us who did exactly the same after they crossed the oceans and gave us a better life today. Don’t let the elites take that away from us. Don’t feed the rich and their power hungry appetites.
UBI has virtually zero advantage over the current system without checks and balances to prevent people from billionairing and monopolizing our economy.
I've determined that Scott Santen is a shill for the likes of Musk (a demonstrated fascist who also promoted UBI), Thiel, and other Silicon Valley fascist types.
Santen promotes UBI to distract from the concentration of assets. Rather own land/home or get income?
Zero advantage? I think you should become more familiar with all the pilot results and the fact that billionaires are the ones working to ban them everywhere they can.
If we *only* started giving a UBI to everyone, the rents would jump up even further.
Plenty of public housing (renting on a sliding scale) would keep overall rents lower.
It's just not that simple to say that rent would jump up. For example, lots of renters would become homeowners, reducing the number of available renters
Poverty keeps people enslaved. It’s an oligarchs dream as it ensures control and compliance because when a worker is stressed and worried trying to buy food and keep a home they are too frightened to complain for fear of losing their job.
Correct. I worked in my husband's family businesses for 25 years. I was not paid, therefore, I have no SS credits for that time. All credit I have is from the time when I was 50., when I escaped him. All those wasted years. I live on all the SS I have earned since then.
As an example. For over 25 years I was married, and was involved in all three family businesses. I was not allowed to have a salary, and, thus, made no contribution to SS. All credit I have is after that 25 years. At 82, it is a bit tough, as all credit is after I left.
this goes against economic theory about valuation in money terms - poverty is always relative and ineluctably occurs in any context, although economic mobility is real at the individual level
Exactly they have everyone right where they want them, working poor check to check. While all the nobles and their king reap the benefits of the hard working people.
I know it's a hot take, but we're all alive just once on this planet. And instead of pulling everyone up, so we can all have the best experience whatever our walk of life, we created a system to make sure everyone but us is in a puddle of shit, sick, hungry and enslaved. Why?
Nelson Mandela was a compassionate & caring man. I saw him when I was around 16 years old. It was the day he was released from prison. There was so much excitement & happiness that day
This may be naive, but wouldn't fewer people in poverty mean more people with money, and therefore more people with spending/buying power? Which in turn would grow the economy.
The obscenely wealthy Super Citizenry is not as interested in economic growth as it is in the consolidation & control of the economy for themselves. That is why they are pursuing societal destruction rather than growth. An educated & healthy general public is a threat to their control.

But that would go against the Theory & Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism: if leisure & security were enjoyed by all alike, the great mass of human beings who are normally stupefied by poverty would become literate & would learn to think for themselves . . . would sweep [the Oligarchy] away. 1984
I choose to own up and take responsibility.
Playing the blame game keeps folks poor and buying lotto tickets, scratchers, and the occasional trips to the casino because they believe in luck. Basically.
People need to understand this. Then maybe they would stop voting for Republicans who make policies that keep them in poverty so that the super-rich can become richer. Capitalism on steroids keeps people in poverty.
Fellow Americans, when a government of the People, for the People, and by the People turns against the People, it's name is Tyranny. We the People have a duty & an obligation to exercise our Rights & Liberty to overthrow those traitors, & abolish their treason by any means necessary.
Revolution.

See my pinned thread and this article.
Billionaires hate work most of all.

I'm poor for a rich country, not by world standards.
It's still a problem.

Better still, governments to grow a pair and tax them appropriately.

It’s cheaper and better for the economy to end poverty.
Democrats have historically done well when in power, but they are in the minority in Congress
Congressional Republicans are in power right now, and can make change
If you want change, call your Republicans
That U.S. Congressional switchboard number is
202-224-3121
Poverty is a cultural choice and represents how misguided our current values are.
It's time for us to value life as a gift, not a contest.

Except health issue was not in the dream !
Revolution.
Then turn your ire to the ones hoarding it all.
