low resolution give more room for imagination, pretty much why old games look much better in our memories than when we compare them to modern games.
I do this too sometimes
This ^ I really miss that classic grain and quality anime and movies used to have. It gave them a real genuine aura that made movies "feel" like movies, y'know? There's really good stuff now, but much of it feels too clean and sterilized.
This is the same reason pixel art felt better on crts.
Not weird at all. I prefer 1080p too. Reality isn't in 4K because so why should should I play in 4K (written without my glasses on 2 inches away from my phone screen) ποΈποΈ
4k feels like you'd need a very large monitor to make the most out of, as a short sighted person i don't think i'll ever get immersed in not seeing some things blurry either way π
I felt the same when TV's started shipping with higher refresh rates, and movies with CG started looking absolutely ridiculous. Maybe it's cause we got used to the norm of the time.
Lowers the chance of input lag too, can't tell you how many games in 4K made me think my hand eye coordination was deteriorating with age for games that require split second reaction time
I feel like Iβm going crazy because everyone insists on 4K gaming and Iβm out here still quite content with 1080p. If I do end up upgrading my pc I think I would just play games at 1080 with insane framerates.
Well, cause 4k gaming is pretty gewd. It's an experience if you have the money for it.
I am content on 1080p as well too, until Wilds was announced and I thought I could use a little upres upgrade - but not too much that it would jeopardize fps.
A 1440p (OLED) is like a good mid ground
I feel 4k is more of a gimmick than an actual upgrade, most newer titles will struggle on 4K even on newer hardware because developers either don't optimize as much or they just don't care π
I can understand why someone with a 1080p display would prefer playing games in 1080p though! 1:1 pixel mapping is very clear. Downsampling from higher resolutions seems to bring a bit of blur with it, though I prefer that over the raw square pixels
Probably. 1080p looks better on a 1080p native screen than on a 4k. Maybe the game is dropping detail at 4k to keep the frame rate up whilst processing so many pixels. Interestingly most on demand 4k video is lower quality than 1080p blueray. Also this 120fps is a waste that could be spent on detail
Part of the reason games are/were good is your imagination. If you have to fill in the picture it makes you involved in it, more invested. Your brain desires that stimulation. It deserves it. Give in to the pixels.
Never tried 4k but I feel like playing at a resolution lower than native always looks worse. Used to love 1080p but on a 1440p monitor I can only play at a low res for older games and only if it's windowed.

have you tried squinting :]
I do this too sometimes
But if it's high fidelity realism, like, Devil May Cry 5, then I kinda stop noticing the resolution differences, so I just stick with 1080 anyway
This is the same reason pixel art felt better on crts.
1440 is where its at right where on a pretty good middle ground
Tech shouldve stopped at there. Haha
The only reason one of mine is 1440p is because it's 32" and has the same pixel density as 24"@1080

hell on some games I go 480p if I really prefer it to,
like sure it isn't the sharpest but what if I want to play the game vibes alone?
But to each their own.
Even with 5090 4k runs meh lol. Hilarious with the 30 series they talking about playing 8K looooool π
