Of course, but so do (some) other grants, and we don’t place so much of our value on those. NSERC dg is fairly distinct re: what a high premium we seem to place on consecutively holding one

I think the 5 yr award duration makes it very lucrative even if the award amount is modest.

That’s true. The stability is amazing. To be clear I think that NSERC dg is amazing! But it should define you as a scientist

Oh, that’s interesting. What other grants are needed to apply for other grants? I am only familiar with tricouncil grants.
