My 20s was when I really fell in love with his writing. "What? You are actually allowed to write books like this? Why did nobody tell me?" I still think he's brilliant but haven't enjoyed his recent stuff as much. Seems a bit like his success/wealth is his enemy in terms of material.
Brilliant book! Loved seeing his talks in 2007 and 2010. Better than most good stand-up comedy gigs. He once sent me a surprise letter about one of my early books and was extremely kind and lovely about it, even though, to be honest, it wasn't all that great & I had not yet found my voice.
It’s a very intriguing review. I’ll have to check out what you’ve written. It’s seems that everyone from every field is on Bluesky, which is an enjoyable way to educate oneself.
... Unfortunately I've not been receiving any royalties from my ex publisher so it looks unlikely I'll get any money from shop sales until my new publisher takes over. Totally understand if you'd rather go for the easiest option, though, as postage is so expensive to Australia.
Sorry, reading too quickly amidst packing up dozens of books! I just sent a Ring The Hill to Germany and I think it was about £13... Do drop me an email at [email protected] with your address if you'd like one...
I feel like there must be somewhere else. I'm not very up on how the ebook thing works. (Also sadly I'm not being paid earnings by my ex-publishers & won't definitely earn royalties on ebook sales until my new publisher republishes my books.)
In that case please let us know where / how to buy them directly from you.
Signed copies always make me smile - my partner got me a signed set of the Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay years ago and it’s still one of my most cherished possessions and my favourite trilogy.
Having ploughed through 21st Century Yokel (which, as a total surprise to me b/c apparently I have no memory, includes my name as a supporter at the back) I've just started Ring The Hill.
Obvs will be writing a scathing review if I don't laugh.

“Makes the Miserable laugh!”
Or, a really humorously bad review.
