Ah, I'm confused. All the reports say that funding to manage the parks are cut, not the parks themselves. Yeah, cutting funding for staff would be A Bad Thing but this makes it sound like he's going to eliminate their park status. Did I miss something?

That's management, not revocation of park status and the high level of protection for park lands. he just wants to shunt management responsibilities. Now if that said 'privatize' the lands themselves, I'd be all over this story.

He DOES want to sell off BLM lands though, and through slicing up national monuments created by executive order and knocking them back to BLM status, he could then sell them off. But national parks? Only if he can get Congress to do so.

Congress would have to disestablish the parks since it was Congress who passed the laws to create the parks. Now defunding NPS would create havoc within the parks unless states or the public took up the slack (NOT a good thing). But only Congress can smash parkland status.

The result of no funding will be the loss of parks.

They’d have to jack up prices for people to visit to keep them running. That will make it hard for people to visit.

Then people will insist they’re waste of spaces and we (the Rich) would be better off making money off the land.
