“These four researchers, all of whom have history of neutrality, if not outright support of the concepts of porn addiction, have conducted a meta-analysis of research on pornography and concluded that porn use does not predict problems with porn, but that religiosity does.”

This happens incredibly often and they make sure we know it. They like being humiliated.
If it was an addiction to something it would be the relief of ejaculation after an extended period of edging.
Overlapping ven diagrams.
No amount of evidence is going to change their mind. They'll instead choose to believe the 1 in 1000 piece of evidence that they've cherry picked to support their world view.
Breeding mandates are worked into all institutionalized religion to maintain a surpluss of disposable labor, kept ignorant via isolation and condemning parents to raise children as slaves. (1/2)
Either you only mate by their approval to serve their interest, or you threaten their dominance. (2/2)
While I'm still religious, I've since reexamined how I view porn, and the only restriction I give myself is to make sure it's ethically created. Since then, no issues!
Now, it's just a hobby, no more or less addicting or shameful than any other hobby. (Albeit one that is restricted to adult spaces)
So we are looking at weird religious Trauma. That would seem to track from the sort of people I see claiming addiction.
The substance is just the medium.
How would you approach differently?
If the addicts have a near universal quality that is causing them to report said addiction perhaps we have found a problem.
The study found that the problem is not what people think it is.
You don’t really chase the high so much as try to drown out the suffering. True of me at least.
There is a reason addicts don’t just quit substances that they genuinely hate using.

Like I wouldn't even say it's as addictive as videogames, and I'm a huge gooner.
Conversely if I see a sexy lady it does not trigger, "I gotta jerk off to porn!" despite seeing it daily.
Even compared to something like just a habitual weed addiction (been there too) it's just such a nothing yknow?
(For example, the virgin birth is framed as causing Jesus to be "sinless." This necessarily assumes sex is sin and being created through sex makes one innately sinful.)
Sex is fun and only has meaning if you impose it.
Sex is a sacred act reserved for one person in your life because it binds you forever as one flesh.
Who is more obsessed with sex? It’s not a hard call.
Wish I could say the same about religious spaces.
Sex is fun but it can’t be separated from emotional bonding. When you have sex with someone, your bodies release hormones designed to bond you to each other.
For this reason, we should all bear in mind the emotional wellbeing of our sexual partners.
It’s trauma. You are traumatized into fearing sex and then you bond with someone after you have it. You can deal with that trauma in most cases I think.
I see what you did there...
You might as well call hunger "food addiction" or thirst "water addiction" or the urge to get up and go for a walk "locomotion addiction."
It's a normal part of having a body. You're the one being weird.
That's where this line of argument always ends up. Unless you do things in the way they consider productive, it doesn't count.
Oh, who would have guessed!
It can quickly devolve into the self-shaming and guilt Olympics. 🙄
They forced themselves to live by an abusive code of conduct and suffered for it and now they need to make up excuses for why they weren't wrong to do so, at everyone else's expense.
