Go, bills! (by which I mean obligatory recurring transactions should be dispelled from society with the abolition of private property and I'm sorry, you were saying something about football?)

If I had more opportunities to communicate directly with conservatives and pro-Trump people, I would really try to drive home the point that I, as a liberal, want you, personally, to have a better, more secure life even though I fucking hate you.

Indeed, every profile of a Trump voter seems to convey the message, "They're a real human being, not a tulpa!" Yes, I know. That's why they suck. There'd be value in these articles if they commented on the banality of evil, but instead they're like, "No one who's held a job can be a bad person."

I'd love to see a collapse of the Iranian regime... And a collapse of the Israeli government.

The Senate bill aims to effectively end all civil rights lawsuits against the federal government except by entities rich enough to potentially pay million/billions in fees. I am not making this up.

You have to add up all the red bars and stack them on top of each other to pay for the green bar.

It's hard to overstate how disorienting it has been, over the course of my life, watching "liberal" go from a term used by conservatives to signify "radical leftist" to a term used by radical leftists to signify "conservative."

It's worth emphasizing that the "chance after chance" in question was literally the Trump team saying, "You'll shut down your nuclear program in its entirety and we'll give you nothing in return." Motherfucker thinks dealmaking is just declaring what you want, then waiting around until you get it.

I nodded hello to one of the Olsen twins when she was sitting in the hallway of the NYU building where I'd just finished class.

The article says it's "not clear" whether the US "opposed the strike." But the US did pull a bunch of personnel out of the region just hours in advance, so I hope no ones suggesting they were somehow caught off-guard.

Yes. According to Army protocol, congressional staff are VIP Code 5, with a rank equivalent to a two-star general/admiral. Members of Congress are of course significantly higher. I have never seen USCP, FPS, or any other federal LEO treat any Member with anywhere near this disrespect and violence.

"They didn't realize they were tackling a Senator for asking questions, they thought they were tackling a journalist for asking questions" oh, ok then

That's it. We have now crossed the line, the point of no return, the Rubicon. We're talking at least thirty hours of speech-making, followed by a rigorous book tour. The moment demands nothing less.

It's almost impressive, the extent to which Schumer embodies the common belief among liberal Boomers that simply being an agent of the US government makes a person incapable of serious, deliberate wrongdoing. Dude could look at death camps and say, "There must have been a terrible misunderstanding."

We don't need answers, Senator Schumer, we already know what happened: forceful abuse of power violating rights by an anti-Constitutional regime, in defense of other abuses. Maybe working with and appeasing them, or doing nothing and hoping they'll go away on their own, isn't the best strategy.

Maybe people writing concern troll pieces about Bluesky can branch out to other topics. "Patrons sure seem to like this Italian restaurant, where they can order all the delicious pasta and pizza dishes they want. But, as I glanced in the window, I noticed it doesn't offer gas station sushi."

leftists: that thing you teach us in school to be terrified of is happening historians: that thing is definitely happening star wars: here is a beat-for-beat breakdown of how the thing happens, but with pew pew lasers. we know you watched it news outlets: these protesters are out of control

A friend who works at Harbor-UCLA just told me that ICE was on the premises. Harbor-UCLA is a safety-net hospital & a level 1 trauma hospital. People are going to die because of these actions. This makes me so angry.

One thing that really adds fuel to my anger is knowing that millions of people who "didn't vote for this" will never, under any circumstances vote for anything else. They may sincerely want a more humane immigration policy, but only if it's promoted by Republicans and/or Trump himself.

if the entire planet could just fucking take mental day that would be great like I mean the planet itself and everything on it

To call this a longshot would be a tremendous understatement, but do any of my Buffalo mutuals know anyone who is missing a pet rabbit?

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

Not to diminish the larger point, but it seems to me that this only applies to protests from the left. I will never forget how the news networks flocked to the sites of Tea Party protests based solely on press releases and then covered them by saying, "Looks like there aren't many people here YET."

I’ve never forgotten this picture from 2016 and how it completely reshaped my understanding of how the media covers protests.

No it makes sense because children don't eat a lot and immigrants don't contribute to the food supply chain.

I'm nearly 40 years old and I'm only beginning to appreciate the extent to which people perceive their cars as a personal domicile in which they are entitled to absolute privacy. A personal domicile that moves throughout society at high rates of speed and can be used to kill people. Privately.
