Go, bills! (by which I mean obligatory recurring transactions should be dispelled from society with the abolition of private property and I'm sorry, you were saying something about football?)

The private equity firm that owns Instant Pot took out a loan for $450 million in 2021 and paid $345 million of that as a dividend to its investors and management team. Two years later Instant Pot declared bankruptcy.

I've got to wonder whether these publications ever consider that by repeatedly telling a large segment of the electorate, "Your political preferences have no place on a ballot," they're basically saying, "You have no reason to listen to what we say about anything."

Unironically they should buy up the domains for about 60 defunct local newspapers in swing states. Hire two reporters to write almost exclusively about highschool sports and new restaurants opening with every 10th article about how the local GOP is screwing over people.

If Mamdani wins this primary, the institutional/organizational forces trying to defeat him in a general election will be enormous, likely including the city’s billionaires, major news orgs, prominent black leaders and many Dem politicians. That’s what happened to India Walton in Buffalo in 2021.

I think more people should see this, at least before Disney orders it taken down. A simple fan edit helps bridge the gap between Andor and A New Hope, while emphasizing the physical and cultural distance between core systems and Tatooine. youtu.be/c5Uh-sorHq8?...

I'd been waiting impatiently for Wet Leg to put out new music, and then when they do, it's an anthem to the power of rejection, ironically set to music that sounds exactly like it would be near the top of some dude's "fuckin'" playlist. I love them.

It is really really sinking in for me the degree to which LLMs are the ultimate expression of right wing anti-intellectualism. Its proponents are literally mocking the idea that anyone would ever want to learn anything, know anything, develop any actual skill, or have a thought of their own.

I don't think we will be able to successfully work the refs - the refs have been bought off already - but calling attention to this is valuable in convincing people on our side to look around and reevaluate who in the corporate media they can trust

Sometimes I experience Exploding Head Syndrome - jolting awake because I imagine I've heard a loud noise - and let me tell you, there's nothing so disconcerting as when that imagined noise is a scream for help.

“A deranged maniac impersonated a police officer and killed lawmakers but if you’re an immigrant be sure you immediately comply with plain clothes people who won’t identify themselves telling you to get in a van”, what a fuckin country

BTW, best moment of the Buffalo "No Kings" protest for me was when an old, old woman walked by a young man with a sign that said, "Gay and proud, come at me grandpa!" and started absolutely laughing her ass off.

Oh no, I just realized that "largest parade attendance in history" is going to be a talking point at every press conference for like the next three weeks.

I did make my "Make Friends Everywhere" sign for the Buffalo "No Kings" protest. Happy to report the superficial sentiment was well received and that I got a couple handshakes and a hug out of it, but I don't think anyone picked up on the Andor allusion-- not even the kid in the Star Wars hat.

Why aren't you celebrating my birthday

Simpsons did it youtu.be/FAsIx3oPY-8?...

If you can't attend the rallies today for whatever reasons, something useful you can do is scour your local news outlets for coverage and share the coverage on social media and pump it out to all of your networks. Amplify what's happening locally so others in your communities are aware.

I hope he's deeply disappointed with the celebrations of his birthday, but more than that, I wish he could be around to see the celebrations of his funeral.

the thing about Israel conducting an insane campaign of arbitrary violence against Iran while we were trying to negotiate with Iran is that, fundamentally, US foreign policy was the target, not Iran

Society if people regarded homes as places where people live and spend time, instead of assets that will hypothetically provide them a cash windfall at some indeterminate point in the future.

Drop something black

New Yorkers scream out each officer’s lawsuits against them for excessive force and more upon their city, right to their faces while protesting.

If I had more opportunities to communicate directly with conservatives and pro-Trump people, I would really try to drive home the point that I, as a liberal, want you, personally, to have a better, more secure life even though I fucking hate you.

Indeed, every profile of a Trump voter seems to convey the message, "They're a real human being, not a tulpa!" Yes, I know. That's why they suck. There'd be value in these articles if they commented on the banality of evil, but instead they're like, "No one who's held a job can be a bad person."

I'd love to see a collapse of the Iranian regime... And a collapse of the Israeli government.

The Senate bill aims to effectively end all civil rights lawsuits against the federal government except by entities rich enough to potentially pay million/billions in fees. I am not making this up.

You have to add up all the red bars and stack them on top of each other to pay for the green bar.

It's hard to overstate how disorienting it has been, over the course of my life, watching "liberal" go from a term used by conservatives to signify "radical leftist" to a term used by radical leftists to signify "conservative."
