And the strike was on how to set up Jellyfin. Nothing illegal in it but I think the whole idea of not relying on streaming is touchy for YT/Google

I won't be doing any 'exclusives' on Floatplane or anything like that—it'd be similar to my Patreon or GitHub sponsors... if someone wants to support, that's great.

It does provide 4K video downloads and a nicer UI than YouTube, but I will still upload everything free to YouTube

I will more widely 'launch' the Floatplane option later, but for now I'm going to just see how it works, and I'll share more thoughts later on.

There are no 'success metrics' tied to it, I just want to experiment and have video platform redundancy :)

Does PeerTube allow creators to get paid by their community? As far as ive seen it doesn't have any mechanism for ad revenue sharing or crowd funding support (I.e. patreon style)

Peertube would require me to find different way to earn income, other alternatives are invite only (admittedly I think Floatplane is too), plus others don't seem to focus on tech creators at all

Just subbed! As a heads up, though, I unsubscribe from the youtube channels that I get on Floatplane, so I don’t teach the algorithm that I dont ever want to watch their videos. (Also so I dont quit out of them early when I realize Im watching the same video for the second time)

As far as I know, floatplane is more direct than nebula. You pay a subscription to access all of nebula but on floatplane you pay a subscription for that one person.

Also Nebula is invite only AFAICT and doesn't have as many tech creators. Wish there were a good alternative that wasn't so niche-y, but it is what it is

There's a third party app I just discovered called Hydravion that works, but it'd be nice to have something official.
