Went on a quick road trip to get some footage for an upcoming episode and stopped at Ableman’s Gorge near Baraboo WI. I was always impressed by these 1.7 billion year old ripples preserved in quartzite that are now a vertical wall. They were one of my early exposures to geology and deep time. - ThreadSky

In a semi-recent Destiny DLC, there is a big terraformation thingy that happens on the centaur Nessus. In the DLC, you can use a piston to force a lot of rocks called Radiolite up to the surface.

Since Destiny usually dedicates itself to some surprisingly accurate science, I was curious about it.

Should probably mention: Nessus was already terraformed twice prior by both magic and later by a machine species called The Vex, who have a bunch of milky goop called radiolaria.

I’m not familiar with radiolite in geology but we make up words all the time. Diatoms are a microfossil that produces opal support structures for their soft parts. We call rocks with a lot of them, diatomite.

Radiolarians are another micro organism that produces opal skeletons. A rock with a high amount could be called radiolite. Radiolarian shapes are commonly used in sci-fi.
