I did hear it, all the way in Maple Ridge, BC! Was 9 years old and camping with my parents. I remember waking up, looking at my watch (08:31) and moments later heard something I've never heard since. My dad rushed out of his tent, expecting to see me playing with fire. It was the noise of St. Helens

We were in Portland, Oregon, when that happened. I watched from a university window.
The sky was darkened and we couldn't go outside without a mask. Ash fell for days. Our gutters were filled with it and everything was covered in it. We still have a baby food jar filled with Mount Saint Helen's ash.
