At my most generous, this article’s brevity moved it into the territory of downright disingenuous—but listing DSTLRY as a participating publisher in Neon Ichiban without mentioning it’s also owned by the same people? Kinda sus!
There is absolutely a need for more digital comics retailers and the list of how horribly Amazon has treated Comixology customers is voluminous. Hoping for that and getting what is, intentionally or not, a glowing business précis for those bearing no small responsibility for it is… vexing.
I don’t have Insta so I can’t click through on that link, but is that “different platform” Jason Howard using to add a character sketch in fact DSTLRY?
If so, why wouldn’t you address why the same owners are launching a new service that does the same thing with entirely different branding?
Right? “Selling our second digital comics company to Amazon is a sign of our faith in their ability to do right by comics consumers this time and have learned from their previous mistakes,” said the man cashing a very big check.
