The best thing about being a boy mom is gathering your sons to watch "The Princess Bride" and watching them go through the Fred Savage character arc IRL.

My 8yo saw the preview image and actually said "Is this a ROMANCE?" with the very same tone of disgust Fred Savage uses to say "Is this a KISSING book??" And 15 minutes later he was jumping up and down with delight at all the swashbuckling. You can't beat it.
Now they are asking about the book, which I've never read. So tell me: is it good for kids? Is it (as they would say) "appropriate"? We read to them a lot, but I usually pre-screen...
Very much in line with the movie (which is an extremely faithful adaptation), including the narrative asides and meta-discussion about whether there’s going to be kissing. I’d have no hesitation, fwiw.
It's been a long time since I read it (probably in my teens), but I recall it being on-par with the movie. The author, William Goldman, also wrote the screenplay.
The book is hilarious - at one point Goldman summarizes what “happened in the original book” describing a multi-page description of all the clothes and finery that are being packed for some journey.
