Please ask them first! Some libraries aren’t set up to process & catalogue donated books even if they want them, they buy books shelf-ready with catalogue records instead, & disposing of unwanted books (for whatever reason) costs libraries staff time & money when they usually have little of either

Ideally they’ll create a shopping list of what they need. Doesn’t even have to be for books.

A public call for donations linked to that list may work well too, maybe linked to an updates on purchasing. They have enough - about a dozen years ago a local right wing business-owning church nut walked in off the street and destroyed the pride display in its first week up. To avoid copycats and culture wars the librarian buried the incident and set it up in a more secluded spot.
