We have two. One is the meekest, sweetest and, sadly, dumbest little angel to ever have fur.
The other is fearless and only sweet on her own terms; but on the other hand is also very smart, and this smartness gives her occasional bouts of anxiety and panic attacks.
My 14yo tortie has a lot to say and is insistent about what she wants, but is also one of the least violent cats I know. Doesn't chomp or scratch even in play or overstimulation.
I work in the vet field. I have had a tortie since high school. I found out in the vet field that they have a bad rep for being 🌶️. I take offense to that because my tortie is the best cat of cats. She has an attitude, but she only shows it by having a whole debate with you about her opinions
I believe the actual research into coat-personality links show a weak correlation at best. I saw something once on research into owners’ perceptions of this that led me to think it’s large confirmation bias
One of my favorite memories of my father’s last couple of years was watching his Siamese-tortie mix stand on his upper chest and scream at him for attention while he slept in his recliner with his hearing aids off. I wish so much that I had thought to film it.
That was 3 months before he died. 6 years later, that cat is absolutely certain she’s the boss of me & the other cats in my house. She’s very sweet, when not yelling at me to do something.
My regular tortie does what she wants, bosses the other cats around, & pouts when she doesn’t get her way.
I don't chime into every conversation about the behavior of cats of different colors with "there is no actual correlation between coat color & behavior," because people should be able to enjoy their jokes about stupid orange cats, etc.
pretty sure Idgie is technically a tortie, though she mostly just looks…beige…and she’s the cuddliest friendliest cat I’ve ever known, she loooovvvvveessss humans

My one is a character, but just quirky - doesn't cause any real trouble.

Cats is weird.
Asked S, who has cared for probably 100+ cats lifetime and got a curt but resounding no.

But you seem like you're actually asking.
they know you’re not the boss of them, and they do what they want
On the plus side they can also be super affectionate.
