A few questions about wrapping up on Twitter/X
Why delete your posts?
Why lock your account?
Why deactivate your account?
If Musk sold it & it regained something of what it used to be, would you go back?
Finally, if your answer to the previous question is yes, would you regret doing the first three?

I would always move on. I’d never go back.
Would I go back? Conceivably, if it felt safe...starting with a clean slate has some appeal.
I've not left yet, rn, not planning to deactivate or delete posts, just not use - but I've disabled the Grok thing for AI and might lock so those I blocked can't see my posts.
I'd consider going back under new management but he bought it to wreck so 🤷🏻♀️
So to speak.
@scottygb.bsky.social
Sometimes the comments are far funnier or interesting than the shows themselves.
It’s done.
It was a thing and now it’s not.
Delete your data.
Don’t look back.
Will deactivate when X merges with Truth Social - will be my little act of defiance to know I was part of the final collapse.
Musk has damaged it beyond repair imho so no going back. Too toxic a brand to resell.
Once all that’s done you can deactivate your account. Old posts get deleted after 30 days
Or, worst case, historic tweets being used against me.
I deleted everything and deactivated my account.
I don't see it ever recovering, and in the unlikely event, I'd start afresh
I realise nothing on line is ever completely deleted but it will make me feel better to delete/deactivate the lot
I'm just not using it day to day anymore, would much rather use Blue Sky. It's possible I might use it more should Musk leave... but I can't see that happening.
Maybe I’ll come back, maybe I won’t.
Deleting posts means your account is still there, but with no engagement, which affects X’s engagement figures. And they can’t use them for AI.
Might like to save and then delete all my content, though… but I don’t have the foggiest how to do such a thing. 🤷♂️
Settings and privacy > your account and then select download an archive it will download as a zip file
X did indeed send me the archive to download but it’s telling me I have to verify my password again to do so. I was locked out for months last time I signed out and made a note of my latest password when allowed back in. Now it won’t recognise it again.
I’m trapped!
You and @grahamcluley.com have been most helpful. 🙌
Then delete all your tweets - you can do this manually but it’s long or pay for a tool that will mass delete …
Lock down your account to protect your posts. Change your password to something unguessable & leave it dormant. You may need to log in once a month to stop the server culling inactive accounts
Hope this helps
Might do a thread on this for ppl
Your account and keep it dormant but likely to stop an auto cull you’d need to log in once a month just to show the server some activity you don’t need to post or anything to my knowledge
I’ve got a guide on how to leave safely if that would help you
I'm keeping it open and very occasionally popping in. I'm fine with that for now - if I do decide to leave altogether I'll come back to you for that safety guide - sounds like essential reading! xx
Uncrewed, abandoned, sucking in negative vibes as long as the seas roll.
A flying Dutchman drawing in bots & vitriol.
Some locked their account due to abuse.
Deactivation on or before 15.11.24 was the only way to protect your posts from being fed to Grok.
I would regret nothing. Bluesky has proved that people can start from scratch.
Welcome to my Ted talk 🤣
And in recent times I haven't posted much there anyway.
So: I'm still there for now, and I doubt that anyone notices or cares. But I guess I might lock the account at some point.
.. every little helps
I don’t expect to ever go back
I know you should *never go back* …. I always do tho 😔
Reluctant to leave yet glad to be here🦋.
Felt good. Like squeezing the pus from an infected boil. 👍
Why? Musk. There is no ‘but’ / no regret / clear conscience! Musk.
There’s got to be a line somewhere. It’s been crossed!
Because it’ll never be as good as it was.
We’re here now, it’s good, and (mostly) friendly, and much better for our health.
Twitter no longer serves a purpose for him. It's just a plaything for him to throw hand grenades in.
I downloaded an archive so my Tweets would not be lost.
I deleted my password to avoid others getting it.
I deactivated my account b'cos I won't support Musk.
Less users, less advertisers, less £ for Musk.
BlueSky is the now. 😉
Which archive? 🤷♂️
Adverts, idiots, bots and trolls are welcome to X 👽
There is a danger that someone else might pick up your handle and start impersonating you.
Just leave it dormant.
We should / must do everything we can to protect this place from the marauding RW zombies.
I'll just use Twitter less and less.
Twitter/ X is done.
Here's to Bluesky being much better.👍
no regrets
1/3
2/3
3/3
The one Nixon had will pale compared to the vendettas these assholes seem capable of.
My 2 cents.
I still visit my GCs daily to chat with friends, as there are no GCs on @bsky.app yet.
Yes, I would return to Twitter if it became the Twitter I used to love. I loathe X.
I’m not sure I’d go back even if he sold it as there was too much I disliked even before EM.
When I stay I am adding to his power. One more account with a fairly large following (90k) which, in turn, incentives others to stay.
None.
And other people who really don’t want to eat the food and get poisoned still come because their friends keep going.
And there are better restaurants to patronise.
I don't see how a future Xitter, freed from the tyranny of Musk, could revert back to being a nice place to be.
I guess I will miss those little connections ☹️
However, after something daft like 15 years, it's quite tricky to let go. Which is why I haven't so far.
I can't see a reason to return even if Musk did bugger off.
Not being on that platform for weeks has been joyous, although the masochistic bit of me misses the arguments.
This is better for my MH. And no, no need to go back, this will achieve that in time.
To give you some context as to where I’m coming from, I'm a 30+ year veteran of the cybersecurity industry. More importantly, my wife says you're lovely and I do remember enjoying you in "Home to Roost" with John Thaw.
So I'm going to try to answer your questions in order as best I can.
And do send my best to your wife! 🙂
There are ways to automate the mass-deletion of tweets if you want to, but I don't think it's necessary for most folks to do that.
The easiest may be to use a Chrome extension to delete all the tweets. There are a few linked to from here:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/search/delete%20tweets
It's not necessary, but you may still want to. Deleting your posts means that Twitter (I refuse to call it X as that's just a plain daft name) can't use your posts to train its AI.
Hopefully AI will gain intelligent traction not banal platitudes.
BlueArk is perhaps the easiest method for non-technical users - although there is a small cost. https://blueark.app/en-us/
* It sends a definite "up yours" to Musk.
* Search engines will stop driving traffic to Twitter because of your past posts. Hopefully, in time, they'll be driving people to your Bluesky posts instead.
Locking your account means that your tweets won't show up in public search results, and people won't be able to follow you without your permission. It's normally used by people who only want to share updates with close friends and family.
So it’s deleted but not deactivated
Frankly it’s a cesspit and unless there’s major changes I’ll not be back
Good people on here with hopefully more to follow
But I can leave all that crap behind and start again, I’m progressive and I embrace change.
Twitter would have to undergo such a major transformation that I don’t think it would be worth it.
The only good thing that Twitter had that is not here is the “trending” feature.
The numbers were great but in the end proved to be JUST numbers. No interaction.
Lock it so trolls can't dogpile you in your absense.
Don't deactivate or your username can get hijacked or squatted.
We'd only go back if it was turned over to community ownership.
