As I'm seeing more details emerge, there could possibly be the element of foul play considering there were 2 other dogs left alive & they were not found in the same place however they were found dead of the same cause. Just a strange also that they were found long after they were apparently died.

A very nice guy by all accounts. Such a shame. Can't really remember him in a bad performance really. There might have been one, but I can't remember it.
And his scenes in Young Frankenstein were brilliant. Ad-libbing "I was going to make espresso" creased the entire team on the set apparently.

I remember him in Crimson Tide. He played the submarine skipper alongside Denzil as the XO. He matched Denzil pound for pound. That’s no mean feat. Great movie.

Back in the days of heading to the DVD rental, or beyond to the video rental shop if you were unsure of whether a film would be good a clear sign of quality would be Gene Hackman being in it. Off the top of my head I can't think of a naff film he was in
