Think I still prefer Bourdieu's concept of fields to Luhmann's 'structural differentiation', but what I think is useful here is the emphasis on organisations, which as I’ve noted before often gets lost in contemporary elites studies & studies of inequality more generally.

Going back to C. Wright Mills - & power structure research via Domhoff - there's a recognition that Luhmann's moneyed & career-based 'classes' overlap in the major corporations.

Missing group then (from Luhmann) is 'celebrity', which Mills was attentive to (albeit not as an elite group in itself). Working on several projects trying to integrate media, & ideational power more broadly, into studies of elites & inequality...
