Steve's right, but I really have to say, as a Newfoundlander living in BC all the framing of 'west' = AB, SK, & MB, 'east' = ON, QC, *maybe* NB feels really weird.

A lot of folks in the west feel hated by eastern canadians, and my replies today and yesterday have made it very clear, they are absolutely correct.

The alienation, the distinct and not groundless impression of being used by the elite to extract wealth, is what gives grievance politics their foothold.
We here in the lower mainland are a different cultural region.
If you're referring to equalization payments, this feeling is fanned by those same AB leaders who made poor choices. See Trevor Tombe's post: https://www.policyschool.ca/news/why-equalization-is-not-unfair-to-alberta/
Yes, the oil first. And minerals, and farming. Of course it's fanned by the provincial leaders, THOSE are bad actors. But the grievances had to first be present for the bad actors to use, and acting like those aren't real is a huge mistake.
The important aspect for political leaders is to temper down extremist views, not aggravate them while offering no solutions. That's why my focus is on Smith, not on those people.
2. I can guarantee you that Danielle Smith wouldn't be pushing for this foolish referendum that will lead nowhere fast if Poilievre was PM today.
This was a serious tactical blunder on your part, if you wanted to actually engage.
If he doesn't want people to engage, what is the point of posting on social media?
In this case, you didn't. Intentionally or not, you joined a pile-on, and did it with a less than excellent take.
But no matter how you slice it, the Torontonians who told me they're from the 'East coast' are just flat wrong. 😛
Atlantic Canada is the name for the 3 Maritime provinces plus the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. 😊
