if anyone is interested in what it is: it's a light echo; none of it is moving. That star went supernova, for weeks it was brighter than all other in the sky. then for three years we photographed the dust around it being lit by the flash farther and farther from the star as time went by!

The star is V838 Monocerotis. This is made from frames taken over a long timespan.
Would be nice if they had been transparent about that.
Honestly I prefer seeing the real footage, even if the framerate is really low.
