Wouldn't be surprised if Trump turns viciously on Peter Thiel and the rest of the Silicon Valley gang whose delusions of grandeur resembled late 1990s Russian oligarch arrogance towards Yeltsin's potential successors

Nah, Thiel is smart (and also hates Musk too). He'll never openly cross Trump and will get all the benefits of Musk's intrusions into federal agencies while Musk himself crashes and burns under Trump DOJ investigations.
Though unlike Yeltsin, Trump is unlikely to turn the US authoritarian, though a anocratic mess is very plausible, which benefits the Silicon Valley set much more than Trump.
Disagree, he was already paving the way for authoritarianism to come back since 1992, and really demonstrated the authoritarian instincts in the 1993 coup.
(*PayPal not eBay) It seems to be genuinely unclear as to how much the rest of the SV Trumpers (not just Thiel, but eg. Marc Andreesen) supported Musk's rebellion, and as to how they'll jump now that clearer lines are being drawn between Trump people and Musk people (if any).
I imagine they are thrilled.I’m sure Thiel’s end game is to get Elon &Trump out of the picture so JD,who is the easiest to manipulate,is the president. Also Thiel won by running away with the contract for Plantier which,I imagine,is the real reason musk is salty.
Nah, Trump only cares about loyalty and Thiel knows how to use Trump to get what he wants. Musk's problem is his inflated ego, extremely thin skin, and of course, rampant drug abuse.
It all seems so predictable, yet I can't think of a good historical analogy to Trump's dumping of Musk. An authoritarian firing someone wealthier and with more media power surely won't end well, but where has it happened before? Jack Ma?

The Valley gang are incredibly naive.
And easily replaceable.
And given the sources of much of their funding mass arrests would be very popular with an angry public
