You could make an argument that in investing so many of the IRGC and Iranian state's cash and resources in sustaining proxies in Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq and Syria the Soleimani era drew Iran into imperial overstretch that hollowed out the regime's ability to defend Iran itself

Whatever happens in the world Europe prefers to remain a sleep even when it comes to own interests. Israeli destruction of Iran energy infrastructure will only benefit Russia & guess who will get kicked as a consequence. Europe is still reciting outdated slogans Israel has right to defend itself.

Yes, but it was obvious to essentially any traveller in Iran, like myself, even c 20 years ago the population was restive and the regime had only the payroll vote. Imagine having any gov't for decades. 'Tips' or 'bribes' were essential. There hasn't been any spirit to sustain any ethic.

Iran is not monolitical. The Islamist have a somehow strong internal opposition for decades. Leftist, democrats, sunnis, kurds... Shah's Iran and Israel were close. So, the seed was/is there. The Shah asked Israel to kill Khomeini. It refused, this might be a strategic mistake, who knows?
