I believe the design of this segment of Dutch Village Road is a vestige from when it was the entrance to Highway 102, hence the right-turn slip lanes and five-lane cross section.

In this sense it is a bit like Cogswell, which was overbuilt relative to its modern-day role in the traffic network.
