Separation of powers is a gentleman's agreement that depends on all 3 branches respecting it.
If Trump violates process & ignores court orders, who enforces them?
Besides, he wants to declare them criminals and put them in slave labor camps under the 13th Amendment.
On January 20th Trump will be our first dictator. Dictators don’t believe pesky legalities apply to their agenda. He’s already trying to strip every branch of government from applying their power. 😞
We the people are going to sit back and let it happen because those that elected him wanted it. They didn't see immigrants as human. It had nothing to do with breaking the law. If it did they wouldn't have elected a felon. Black people didn't support him. We know about being treated inhumane.
I suspect the majority of these deportations will be extrajudicial despite the rule of law since “you know who” has no concern for the law or the constitution
Exactly my belief. tRump and his gang will bypass all laws to charter planes and have a daily airlift full of brown people to Central and South American Capitals. It will be so reckless and indiscriminate as to sweep up people that are here legally as well.
Absolutely insane you would compare the man who stopped Hitler to a Hitler impersonator. . .
Stalin wasn't perfect, but he is a polar opposite of Trump: a Georgian Peasant who gave his life to serving the Working Class.
Maybe you should try reading a book which isn't comprised of ahistorical slander
And Stalin also had his own RFK Jr. in the form of Lysenko, except rabid anti-communists like to attribute it to communism alone and not authoritarianism.
Lysenko was more closely associated with Khrushchev, not Stalin. He was first invited to speak before the party congress by Khrushchev in the 1930's, and Khrushchev is who nominated him to the Academy of Scientists in 1940. Lysenko did not get removed until the fall of Khrushchev.
Perhaps the silver lining of him dismantling all systems and structures, what rises out of it will be the America that does ensure the rights of ALL citizens. It would be the best thing white allies can do for Black people.
I agree. There will be some emergency power that will he will use to enact, and he will have support of courts. I look at Ken Paxton here in Texas and see how things are done. The saving grace will be big money intervening that know how their economy will suffer if the workforce disappears.
George, have you considered that, since imprisoned persons can be used as slaves that even if the Trumpists give lip service to following immigration law, immigrants will be imprisoned and used as slave labor. That is if worse doesn’t happen given that Trump is a Hitler fanboy.
I would think due process wouldn't be a concern for him. He'd just round them up and ship them out. Since that's what Greg Abbot and other governors have done (shipping to other states). Immigrants aren't people to Trump, and one you dehumanize a population, the rules are no longer an obstacle :(
Trump will find a way around this. Probably using his legal poodle Matthew Kazmierczak, supposedly a federal judge in Texas. We cannot assume legal safeguards will hold. We can assume, however, that Trump's efforts will be marked by massive incompetency.
They can still hold them in the detainment prison camps and force them to work for free until their hearing.Or put ankle bracelets on them until their hearing.
Trump is breaking laws with impunity. You think that will stop? When MAGA says they're "throwing out the rule book" they just mean they'll make their own laws...they own the highest court, the Senate, the House AND the Presidency.
It's a bit frustrating to think he will be working on his goals within the system(s) and norms currently in place.
Moves to expect from t rump
* setting up new courts / authorities / camps.
* bullying nations to accept the deportees
They'll change the law, write an Algorithm, or whatever. I am so afraid, what is about to come to a country that got great because of its democracy. I still believe, there is something wrong with the count of votes.
He doesn’t plan on hearings…He plans on a caravan of planes waiting at airports and just loading em up in the middle of the night and shoving em out without parachutes
I don’t think their plans include thoughts. By declaring an emergency war act, he’ll skip due process. They won’t be checking IDs. It will be even worse than we can imagine. My daughter is a teacher with lots of legal and undocumented immigrants. We need to prepare.
There won't be any hearings. They will be forced into deportation camp (his friend will own the camp and pork the government for money), they will be deported even if they were born here.
Can you imagine a latino thrown into mexico having never been there?
Mass deportation will cost trillions of dollars and take time. They may not follow some of the process, but the US can not just dump people at the border. They need permission from these countries they want to deport to.
....I see a lot of handwringing and 'whatta we gonna do?; It's hopeless!' among the responses. It's not hopeless. Messy, unpleasant, a long slog and undoubtedly ruinous for some of us. But if enough of us simply refuse to fall into line, and persist, we'll give the bums the rush they deserve...
Yeah but I worry by the time and if it happens power will be so entrenched in the GOP agenda, we’ll lose fair elections.
I didn’t state my concern well (it’s late and I should be sleeping).
No, you stated your concern just fine. I know exactly what you mean. Few days after he won I was on X tweeting that he’ll try 1 of 3 things.
Change the rules so he can run for another term.
Change the rules so he can serve another term without running.
Make himself life President.
Trump will leave office in '28, and in reality, it may be before then. I actually think Speaker Johnson will be a very key role in the function of Trump's government. So many others, including Vance, have next to no experience.
While I would normally agree with you George, we're not dealing with anything, nor anyone, "normal" here. These MAGA Fascists don't care about laws. They're going to do whatever they want to. And we, the "normal" folks, will have to get in their way when they try to do it.

My fear is Trump doesn’t care about rules or laws. With the SC ruling he thinks he has been given permission carte blanche to do whatever he please with no consequences.

That's a problem regardless of where you stand on illegal immigration - the laws and procedures definitely need to change.
It was about gun control, but it makes it pretty clear he doesn't care about it.

Nope. He can just tell his military to kick them out. Come on Takei...I know you know better.
The Supreme Court made him king Mango Mussilini.
