There are many critical changes needed for how we elect our leaders. Getting rid of the Electoral College is high among them.

California, a state of nearly 40,000,000 people, has the same amount of representation in the United States Senate as Wyoming, a state of less than 600,000 people.
This is the direct result of a deal struck between slave states and free states in the 1700s.
It’s time for that to change.

Problem is, states like Wyoming, Montana, etc are unlikely to want the change.
They very much like having their vote weigh 20 times their value.
Because of First Past The Post, not the EC.
I have a comprehensive list of things to fix America that is pinned on my profile. I would love it if you would repost it and have people read the thread. Get rid of electoral college is one.
I understand if you don’t have time to read mine.
Please Please Please stop telling people that the EC is the primary problem. FPTP is the problem.
If we had Ranked Choice (or some other superior system) then the EC would simply be a relic that isn't actively destroying democracy.
FPTP is the problem.
Trump was accused of serious crimes and they were proven in court, yet the population did not care. This is a failing of the school system, history is full of bad people getting into office - I bet most Trump voters are oblivious.
However, just a food for thought comment.
GOP certainly benefits from EC and the gerrymandering, but so do the democrats in a way.
For example, in IL, the majority of people vote for republican in IL(making IL red) expect for the cities, which have been Blue.
Now, I am not saying we do not need change, we absolutely do!
However, you may need to come to grip that there are a lot of republicans in this country.
Ridding of the EC is the first step...
Yes, compelled speech IS a violation of the First Amendment.

With everything new, including Constitution and election process.
✌️🙂💙
Cut them loose once and for all
From Dave Wasserman @Redistrict (X):
"Final count: the 2024 election was decided by 229,766 votes across MI, PA and WI out of about 155.2 million cast nationally, with PA (Trump +1.7) the Electoral College tipping point state." *(229,766/155,200,000=0.15%)
Sorry for the rant, the distortion disturbs.
I thought this was america?
California has 55 electoral votes with a population of 39M.
Based on population and math, California should have 200 electoral votes.
Don't bother arguing with me. I didn't invent math.
#AbolishCitizensUnited
How would that work in a popular vote?
435 reps aren’t enough for 330m Americans.

I've been correcting people that FPTP, not EC, is the problem for like 20 years.
The fact that people don't care to educate themselves on the VERY BASICS of elections speaks volumes and that passionate apathy is why we won't change.

A solution to the actual problem, First Past The Post.
EC is unrelated.
If you get rid of EC and keep FPTP then you've solved literally nothing.
Get rid of FPTP and keep the EC and you've made a massive improvement.
FPTP, not EC, is the problem.
Getting rid of Gerrymandering.
Ordered districting requirement that create fair competition.
Clear rules for accessibility in voting rights.
