I got fired today. I had to sit in my cubicle for 5 maddening hours, knowing it was coming. They told me I was being laid off, I was just waiting for the email.
I asked the same thing today - how can the richest guy in the world not understand accounting, at all. He's hacked into some of the most fiscally monitored systems there are, and doesn't even know what he's looking at. It's mind-boggling.
Is there govt fat? Sure and don’t mind cutting waste and fat but finding that waste and fat takes time, analysis, and data. None of which has been used by DOGE in these cuts. They’re just blanket, across the board cuts as determined by one man with zero government experience. Completely asinine.
What a waste of talent and experience - These are people, What can we do to remind them they are part of a community that care. We need a new way of reach them in new ways because our bureaucratic safety-nets, NPOs are being demolished under command of a monstrous lunatic that wants us to isolated
From someone who heard some facts today, promotion in-service for Feds does not reset the probation period. They were likely on the probation list by mistake (if they even were). Muck is just outright lying to justify firing people.
💯 Similar story about Energy employee fired last week despite working for DOE for 10 years . . . but was promoted to another job a few months ago so technically on 'probation'.
that makes it scary for a lot of us then that got picked up in new positions.. I don't see how they can get away with that .. but fascists don't care and R congressional magats have no spines

I have seen more than several, @georgetakei.bsky.social. It is now getting close to 50. Anyone who has been in their title for less than a year is getting the letter. This is not efficient or logical; it is indiscriminate. So much for efficiency in the future.
The practice of promoting people to get rid of people has been common among governmental agencies, has been for a long time. But nobody asked until now…
The person didn't get fired for performance, the position was eliminated. If the person is good at what they do, they should have no problem finding a similar role in a position that is founded.
I'm sorry. Have you not seen our job market? I know people with Master's degrees and years of experience who have been applying for a year straight. All this does is add a lot of already highly qualified people to compete against for few jobs. This comment is out of touch with the reality I'm seeing
Not to mention, these professionals have been performing highly specialized roles in the public interest. We’re losing institutional knowledge and capacity, and treating people horribly, for what? And you’re advising we pay attention to the circus, and not the recession.
Oh no. Please. Pay attention to the recession. And the National Debt. I agree. This is a debacle. Niche industry knowledge is very hard to regain after its holders have left.
"Government workers are real people with families who dedicated their lives and expertise to service. It feels like we’re being treated as grifters or terrorists, when we’re not."
"I got this generic form letter that still said “template” in the document title. It told me I was being fired for performance-based reasons, but my boss and I were like, I haven’t even worked here long enough to get a performance review. "
Happened to the husband of a woman my husband works with -- he's a cyber security expert -- has worked for the government for years -- just promoted -- yeah, we don't need high performers like that.
Federal job *probation* is the first year or two of employment when new hires are supervised more closely and reviewed more frequently. *Probation* is NOT a disciplinary status.
This employee may not be probationary. Please look at 5 CFR 315.802 for assessing whether prior service counts toward completion of the probationary period. Federal HR makes these errors frequently. If there is any doubt ASK someone - go to the union (if eligible)or file appeal to MSPB on form 185.
They don't want good people. Smart ask questions.
To be fair, they are so incompetent that they've not bothered to check employment start date vs year's in post. A rookie error.
Anybody who has worked in public service would have known about probationary periods for promotions. But none of these assholes know anything about public service.
Some people who took the Offer to resign got screwed because they were considered “probationary” employees. Probationary employees don’t qualify to get the buyout!
I've said it before - this is the absolute **DUMBEST** way to go about reshaping a workforce that you could possibly undertake. They are doing it because they can do it quickly and say "See how much we saved you!", but it's actually costing us with all the churn, chaos and mistakes/re-hires.
Nice way to ossify an organization. No one will want to accept a promotion or switch to another agency for at least the next 4 years if they want to keep their civil service protections.
A woman transferred from Dept of Defense (after 9 years) to the VA 10 months ago to provide direct care and support to veterans. Fired because she’s in the first year in her new job.
No replacement. Veterans are not getting care as a result.
GOP still claims to support vets, or is that over?
I’ve heard this too, but them supposedly saving this fate for those in probationary status are still governmental employees serving the American ppl. So disgusting
I just posted that these stories should be a death by 1,000 cuts for Republicans. Find ONE person each day. Get them on camera so folks can hear the story, see their face, feel the anguish and uncertainty. Run a new one each day. Every day. After day. Until the R's are buried by the onslaught.
They don't care. They'll just point, laugh, and say 'Sucks to be you.'
Republicans have no feelings of sympathy. There's only *ONE* person they care about:
Themselves.
I don't need Republicans. I need to activate enough of the 1/3 of the country that sat the last one out to vote in my direction. People are very susceptible to persuasion from people they perceive as being "like them." So tell stories across all demographics and allow the viewer to "see themselves."
Okay, it's all making sense. Elon can stay because he is ignorant, arrogant, clueless and wrecking things. Like, as a government employee, The. Worst. Ever. So under his own guidelines, he stays.
"Efficiency" lol
This is isn't DOGE. This is just RAGE-lite, which is the first step in Curtis Yarvin's way to Technofeudalism. Musk, Thiel and Vance are all big fans of Yarvin.
Retire All Government Employees is the plan.
A lot of people don’t know that every time you move into a new role at a higher GS level you have a one year probation. So yeah- it’s not a bunch of 18 year olds. It’s like working for the same company for 20 years and getting fired because you just got promoted 6 months ago
This is also happening in DoDEA, our school system that handles preK-12 education for the children of all active duty, US Officials, and contractors living abroad on military bases worldwide.
We have also been told to pull DEI materials from our curriculum and the libraries - with no guidance.
If you have a 401(k) pension plan, let me tell u that most of the funds are invested in companies like Tesla, Amazon, etc., please review your investments and consider reallocating them to 'cash' / 'gold'. It looks like they are deceiving us from behind
I'm a state government employee and this is absolutely the case. Every time I get a promotion I am immediately in six months or a year of a "trial service period." Many folks in trial service have a very niche high level knowledge in one particular area of government.
I worked in the private sector, and over %50 of the company's workforce was fired without notice. Many of them came back from lunch and the security guard had their personal belongings in a box. They were not allowed to enter the building. Most of the fired were IT and engineers. Reason ... Cuts
This is exactly how Musk runs his companies. Just fires everybody and sorts through the bodies later for scraps he may need. He did it to Tesla’s entire supercharging division last year. Now somehow he’s doing it to the entire federal government without any congressional approval or oversight.
Trumpie and Muskie pretty much want to destroy any part of the government that opposes them. Then when things happen, and they will, they'll all whine and complain and start blaming others for their screwups.
There is no end in sight. Just wondering why if this MAGA government is saving so much money does our federal budget need to be raised? The MAGAts also want to raise the debt ceiling! For what? Rocket man is supposed to be saving billions. Which MAGAts are getting played here?
Forget all these stories of layd off federal employees being good at their jobs,on probation because of a promotion, having voted for Trump, etc. None of that is under consideration. The SOLE reason they are firing probationary workers is because it is legally "easier" to do: less red tape/lawsuits.
If the Trump Administration really wanted to “trim the waste,” it would conduct a deep and thorough review. Elon doesn't do this in his companies. Trump does not know how to do this and doesn't care.
The awful irony of a tech bro who has no idea what he's doing and a handful of boys who have never worked before firing people for being inexperienced is off the charts.
Someone needs to track these folks down and find out who they voted for. I have suspicions that is the real story. If so, wouldn't that be election interference on a grand scale along with abuse of presidential power...
It's not just new employees being terminated. Even after being there for years, people who changed jobs and got promoted are terminated without cause. Now, another judge says they can continue this. The government isn't for profit. It's a service provided for the people living in this country.
Thousands fired (without cause) will no longer have health care. Do they have time to prepare? The answer is no. When they’re fired it’s same day - goodbye. This cruel government puts poor performance on their record so this makes finding another job difficult.
Federal employees must get a security clearance. This can take 3 to 6 mo. Unlike Kavanaugh if they have gambling debts or a drinking problem they are not hired.
Wish our elected officials had a security clearance.
These arbitrary firings amount to the worst brain-drain our country will have ever seen. The best and the brightest are being lost from the very positions where they served the public best.
In the Federal system, most jobs have a probationary period of 1 or 2 years. This includes a lot of people on the same job, but who got promotions with slightly more responsibility.

Well, he's been let go from his probation period in an organization that is gonna be eliminated.
Now, he's gonna come back. My Trump lovin' co-workers FAed and are FOed. 😊

You know how that goes.
So screen readers etc can read.

They are allergic to it.
Because that's what Eelon is doing to the USA.
