I just don't understand the film & tv industry at all. Everyone is playing a role. Who they are means nothing. It's just their acting ability that counts.
Let's keep refusing to go back to those bad, old days! Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are things to be celebrated. I will always say it in FULL, and call out anyone disparaging the concepts! Many of my loved ones are those left out, and we all lose.
Nathan Lane is great. Shame on the producers for passing on him due to his sexuality.
On another note, Wayne Knight did a fine job in the role himself. It's not fair to him that it's overshadowed by the homophobic actions of 30 years ago.
If you watch "Penny Dreadful, City of Angels" you can clearly see Lane is brilliant at what he does. I recommend that show anyways, it's great. Yes George T. there is a Star Trek person in there.
My experience of homophobic people is coloured by my work investigating crime etc.
I found that often those who shout loudest were (are) paranoid about their own leanings and fear being drawn to the dark side. Led to one 'closet' butch man killing his gay friend.
We watch it at least annually, always gives us a million laughs. Guess that guy just doesn't know talent when it's pouring out of someone. I think he needs more gum!😆

The Bird Cage
all of them
deserved an Oscar
So the joke was on them
I seriously suspect there is a lot of ad-libing going on!!

I saw him as Roy Cohn in Angels in America on Broadway. GENIUS.
Too gay. You know what's too gay?
NOTHING

I was brought up amongst/around thespians, artists & musicians from a very early age. I was never 'hit on' & truer friends would be harder to find.
Narrow minded bigots are everywhere

For the first time or rewatch it if you haven’t seen it in 20 years.
It is just wonderful.
The whole cast is brilliant.
Mr. Lane, Nathan Lee Graham, Linda Lavin, and Matt Bomer are a great ensemble
