This defies every policy and oath physicians are required to follow. No one should be turned away. Even the wacky Adventist Health System changed its name to Advent and does not deny care.
How does anyone actually take this BS seriously. If the mentally impaired person in the WH scribbles on an "Executive Order" that is so outrageous and illegal as this, how do sane people act as if it is valid.
He is the mad Queen of Hearts.
"Off with their heads!" And some fool will carry it out.
As a 4 conflict combat veteran with a purple heart, and a 100% VA rating, this is absolutely asinine. I find it insane that someone who never served can now potentially deny my care because of my voting record.
Can you link something supporting your position? Because I seem to remember the same argument right before overturning Roe V. Wade. It's been reported by multiple sources.
I’d love to answer you but when I click on the notification it brings me to your comment, not back to the original post, so I have no idea what my position was or even what was being discussed. 😂
That's it. When trump deliberately attacks veterans care because of political affiliation and marital status, it's past time to remove this fucking piece of shit. America needs a good law firm to prosecute trump for his lawlessness.
Funny, but I have never had a political conversation with any of my care giver at the VA !
Never thought much about it !
Least not until trump has decided that democratic Veterans are unworthy of being treated !
How do republics still blow this evil MFers horn for him ?
😵🥴🙁💔
I’d *L O V E* for someone at the VA to refuse to treat me for any reason, but especially for any of those listed. We’d both need to go to the ED to have my foot extracted from their asshole.
Where I live, and I think in much of the US, VA doctors skew towards blue. I don't expect them to violate their oath of service just because Trump says it's okay, but if they did, I'd expect the patients they'd refuse to serve would look very different than who the administration thinks they should
Not that I don't think this administration would be this petty and vindictive, but stories about executive orders usually link to said order. I haven't seen any link to an order like this, and the White House denied it.
If anyone has a link to the text of this order, I'd love to read it.
Sooo... wouldn't that allow doctors to also choose not to provide treatment to Republicans or, more specifically, MAGA Republicans? The idea is hateful and cruel to begin with, but that knife he's introduced would cut all ways, tight?
Not if they are real medical professionals, we treat people for their injuries or illnesses regardless of race, political stance, ability to pay.
We treat people because they need our help.
That is an unknown concept for our convicted felon.
Getting closer to the end of his life, he should rethink
That is a nice thought but we have seen the cases where pharmacists don’t have to fill a prescription for birth control because of their “religious beliefs”. I’m sure the majority of medical professionals take their oath seriously but there will be some who act on the new executive order.
This is an obvious violation of the 1st amendment, which protects freedom of association. There’s no way it will stand up to legal challenge (even with a conservative supreme court).
Executive orders are not laws. They are statements of Administration policy. They are required to be consistent with U.S. laws, and they can be challenged in court.
It's like Duplessis again. FYI, this is the freak in that got single mothers in Quebec certified as insane to take their children to experiment on, to defraud the federal government. They actually performed shock therapy, lobotomies and drug experiments on 2000+ children, killing a lot of them.
You all do realise the hippocratic oath is not actually something you swear, right? Nobody swears it, there are no ceremonies of it, and it's free to ignore at any point because it's just words
I asked my doctor at the VA about this. It's bullshit propaganda. Please don't spread this rumor. The VA put out a statement denouncing this, but its too long to post here.
I don't find any evidence to support this claim, George. The article appears to be a satirical article. Should it be found to be true, then I agree wholeheartedly with you.
Because Trump isn't and never was a christian.
He only do the bloody thinking of evangelists to have them as his voters.
I don't know just one of the 10 commitments he didn't break several times. And his voters love him for that.
Oh I know he’s not a Christian man. But he pretends to be one, his whole thing of holding a Bible and then selling them surely must have upset some Christians?
A::No. It's not true even if Trump wants it.
The bylaws now say medical staff should not discriminate “on the basis of any legally protected status, including legally protected status such as race, color, religion, sex, or prior protected activity in any employment matter or in providing
benefits under any law administered by VA.” MedPage Today reported on the Palo Alto bylaw changes, noting similar differences in a section on medical staff membership.
Of course, ant Dr that does that loses their license to practice medicine. THey've violated the Oath they took. UNLESS the State Board that licenses docs has turned political.
What’s reprehensible is the armed forces who stand by or stand with this threat to America and do his bidding blindly loyal to a man who’s actively destroying the constitution they swore an oath to defend from enemies foreign or domestic. Just shows how weak our military’s honor truly is.
I read this a couple of weeks ago. Apparently he signed it in January. This is horrible discrimination and needs to stop. Yet, his sheep are still following
Doctors take the Hippocratic Oath so let’s see how this plays out shall we 🤷♀️ a doctor refusing treatment to anyone for any reason needs to step down from the profession 🤷♀️ signed an LPN 👩⚕️
This is misleading and you can do better. See Fox News for how not to react. Medical staff at clinics or hospitals don’t care about your politics. I expect better analysis from the left.
#HippocraticOath means something to most docs. And in my experience, the VA has some of the most dedicated healthcare providers.
I haven't found a single provider that will follow this rule. And every one I've asked said they'll falsify data to protect their members.
VA docs are the shit! #Peace
Any doctor that would refuse to treat you based on your marital status or party affiliation, is doing you a favor in that they are most likely a terrible physician who shouldn't be practicing in the first place. They clearly lack professional ethics.
Amen. Thank you. I am a VA employee and there’s a ton of bad shit going on right now, without people spreading misinformation. Disappointed in the Guardian for their reporting on this.
And also, doctors and other health professionals are in that profession because they care about people. All people. (Just because tRump is an a$$hole doesn’t mean everyone else is.)
No i mean we the VA, as an integrated healthcare system, is still treating all patients with the same level of care we have always been. None of this bs has changed actual policy
Again, the point is the message sent, not whether anyone follows it. Make people afraid to reveal their status to a healthcare worker. Fear and intimidation is the purpose.
1/2 They're cagey w/responses. They say the VA won't do it. But the reality is they're allowing/looking away at the provider level discrimination based on politics & marital status.
2/2 "doctors and other medical staff can also be barred from working at VA hospitals based on their marital status, political party affiliation or union activity.”
Only the guardian reported it, and the official policies have not changed. We have individual hospital bylaws which we vote on, that also prohibit this behavior.
And The Hill reported on it as well, albeit derivative from the Guardian's information. That said The Hill is a fairly accurate middle of the road source of information.
Even if this doesn't change anything because there are other guardrails for it, why go out of their way to remove specifically those protections? They say that it's because those things are protected by other laws, but they're probably planning on changing those laws or getting them overturned...
the reason we (my hospital) didn’t make changes is bc they were morally wrong. They removed protections for transpeople and we kept right on doing what we said we’d do.
Bc fuck em.
My motto is “fucking fire me, then”
The short snarky answer is redundancy. Longer answer: If there's a flaw in one law another can hold the line in some court where the rule of law is still the gold standard. See Roe/Dobbs. Everyone thought it was settled law. Until it wasn't. More laws are more protective.
Adding to that, who really controls the courts right now?
Adding to adding to that, what part of this administration obeys ANY unfavorable court rulings, ever?
No, a temporary restraining order may be obtained fairly quickly (per court pace), and it stays if appeals agree all way to SCOTUS (if they even chose to hear appeal of TRO).
Further, outside of court system, a doctor refusing treatment may be in violation of Doctor’s code of practice and jeopardize license to practice depending on circumstances.
Exactly. We should keep our attention on the Republican lawmakers pushing all sorts of tomfoolery through. Trump's stupidity is just an obnoxious cover.
All the more reason to get him and his cohorts out of power, though the damage done will likely take decades to repair, his lasting legacy, hate-fuelled destruction...
Not true, thankfully. They still have to comply with federal law against discrimination, but it continues to be chilling how this administration just keeps removing any mention of people and groups of people they don't want from any source under their control.
you just need one MAGA in the team to start pressuring the others to 'follow the president's wishes'.
He'll snitch on patients and nurses and colleagues.
Are we tired of the cruelty yet? Like genuinely? Those with the privilege need to step the eff up bc those of us who check off too many boxes have limited power and higher potential to disappear.
This is more than outrageous. Despicable, un-American and illegal would also apply. Why does the Congress and the Courts give into these personal vendettas?

After all the delays and appeals those needing care will be dead.

People die waiting for the regime to obey the courts.
