I honestly thought it was a protest against ICE practices. Covering up the Statue of Liberty because the US no longer welcomed immigrants. Instead, it’s Islamophobic farce.
Does anyone believe for even a millisecond that this twunt (i.e. MTG) gives the slightest fragment of a dingleberry about New York City's well-being?! It's even more ridiculous than when they pretended to care about Los Angeles.
Did the SCOTUS consider that their decision on Mahmoud v Taylor now gives parents of varying religions the right to opt out of lessons that don't adhere to their religious beliefs. They can opt out of lessons about evolution, what can be eaten, use of medicines/doctors, marriage & family traditions?
As a high school teacher, I worry about this. Will white supremacist families opt out of Civil Rights Era history units? Will people opt out of evolution lessons? Health classes opted out of due to vaccination discussions? And how are teachers meant to adjust unit assessment for
students opting out?
We had Jehovah's Witness kids in school. They couldn't pledge allegiance, participate in celebrations, and the would leave the classroom for part of the day. I'm sure something was being taught their families banned...
I remember how sad they were. Sometimes, on the playground, we would share what happened and give them treats to cheer them up. They didn't stick with religion after 18.
Indeed, these fundamentalist white Christian evangelists fail to see or comprehend their agenda sits squarely in lockstep with their most despised 'enemies'. They are peas in a pod and hate unites them.
So against religious norms...
--1% of the population in the US is Muslim.
--Sharia law means "right path" (i.e. piety) and isn't the evil people think it is, however:
--of the 50+ Muslim majority countries in the world, 7 do practice a draconian form of Sharia. But that's not the norm.
--Sharia law only applies to Muslims
Yes. And for 99.9% of the Muslims on this planet, their piety doesn't include violence. But if you think Al Qaeda represents all Muslims, then BajRang Dal = all Hindus, and IDF = all Jews, and KKK = all Christians, etc...
Extremists make it easy to hate an entire people. :(
BTW, your list of equivalencies relate to nothing I said. I do hold w/ M. Arouet: “Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” And they often do. Most historical atrocities relate directly to priesthoods of fanaticism & deceit. Not all nominally “religious.”
Practically, Sharia Law isn't much different than the practices surrounding Orthodox Judaism, through granted that Sharia Law has been twisted into something awful and oppressive by some.
Yes, halakah is similar...it's an embodied way of being religious *all* the time (as opposed to just on Sundays, e.g.). It informs diet, clothing, behavior, personal law, prayer etc.
S. Arabia, Pakistan, Iran, Yemen, and Mauritania are among the worst offenders with narrow dogmas/interpretations.
Yes, thank you. Thats what I was grasping at. I'm down with whatever you want to believe right up until your rights negatively infringe on someone else's right to believe what they want. That simple. You can't eat meat because your religion says no? Cool. But saying I can't eat meat ain't gonna fly.
I'm using this with full dramatic irony, because I'm young enough and old enough to remember both my right to marry being when I turned 25 and cops raiding gay bars and terrorizing us for a night out, but having to be ok with their presence at Pride parades. Yet WE'RE the ones targeted
If what this MAGA Congress is agreeing & voting YES, does not resemble many of the horrendous, inhuman, implementation’s of Sharia Laws, tell me what they are doing to the women in America doesn’t? Where’s the difference when you ‘bastardized’ something for your own purpose & control? IMO!
There is no fundamental difference between Taliban and Christian Nationalist Evangelicals preaching politics from the pulpit or the DHS and the Gestapo-this country through greed has turned into a shit show. I just hope we can fix this
Christian Nationalists are a minority in Christianity as well. We can point to the Taliban or Iran as a counter point. It's not surprising that the extremists in both religions are in lock step.
It's almost as if both religions come from the same part of the world. 🤔
It also hits hard when you realize Greene endorses the mass deportation regime that makes a lie out of the Statue’s cry to “Give me your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”
That’s what I find so confusing about her statement. Does she not know or understand what’s written on the Statue? Basic lack of logic? It seems to me she’d WANT it covered up.
Islam actually allows for abortion up to a certain point. As does Judaism. Because they value the life of the mother over the unborn fetus. And abortion isn't a problem in any of the Abrahamic religions. The Bible talks about priest-induced abortions for adulterous women. Numbers 5:11-31.
For instance. In this country, as soon as they got just a little bit of power, what did Xtian Nationalists do? They changed the laws so that expectant mothers couldn’t get the life-saving medical care they need & are entitled to—in every civilized country not controlled by crazed religious zealots.
But I'm 1000km away from home, called, and got a "Raskin's on, babe, I'll call you back."
We're freaking Canadian. But my husband is collecting Dems like it's a fantasy football team or some damn thing. I'm pretty sure Raskin and AOC are co-quarterbacking.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) posted an AI-generated image of the Statue of Liberty wearing a black burqa and commented, “This hits hard.”.
Rep. Jamie Raskin responds: True, it hits hard when you realize U.S. politicians want to impose the Taliban's
agenda: banning abortion rights & birth control, imposing official prayer & religious dogma in the schools, banning books considered offensive by the state & criminalizing the LGBTQ+ community.
Is this supposed to be the Statue of Liberty? Because it can go both ways. The irony here is that MJT is tweeting a photo of the beacon of liberty and immigration being covered when it can apply to their immigration policies as well. 🤦🏻♂️
That blithering moron should have put an ICE stormtrooper on that Stature of Liberty pedestal, to describe the world her Orange master is bringing to this country.
A replica of those Jewish Space Lasers would also be appropriate for her.

From another context, of the usual forms of religious piety, it could be aptly said, “This is miching mallecho; it means mischief.”
Extremists make it easy to hate an entire people. :(
When I say “religion” I am referring primarily in most instances to Xtianity, arguably the most bloodthirsty in history.
But in principle, I am opposed to religion—a biz of inventing irrational children’s tales to cozen would-be adults.

Ok.
Second of all, don't they all keep tabs on each other?
