Some data on these schools:

512 schools total, all traditional public schools (charters were excluded from this list for reasons unknown to me, see pic below)
60% of the students in these schools are Black compared to 36% statewide
17% are white (35% statewide)
72% are in poverty (54% statewide)

Proponents for vouchers would say that they're offering a lifeline to communities failed by public schools while ignoring the responsibility the state has in keeping these schools from failing. 4/

The fact that Georgia remains one of only six states without specific funding to educate students in poverty, or that we ignore the role of segregation and resource hoarding, or we treat our rural communities like inefficient markets... all play into how schools perform. 5/

What's left is the state of Georgia has begun the process of defunding poorer, Blacker public schools so that wealthier people can get a cheaper private school tuition bill.
