If a complete stranger came up to me on the street and told me they were having a surgery the next day I would say "I hope you need it". That doesn't happen in real life. People on bluesky are posting in a public square. Why are people pretending social media is the same as as IRL interaction?

IRL scenarios, the proper response would be “I hope it goes well!” or “I wish you a speedy recovery!”, NOT a comment on the person’s medical decisions.

What you describe social media as would not exist IRL, & stands here: a “public square” is not an invite to rudely comment on others’ statements.
