Thanks! I think highly of The Dawn of Everything but disagree with W and G re both Mesopotamia, which they praise for its statelessness (I focus on labour relations and it was a slave society) and the Inca which they diss for having a state. W and G do not however deal much with the last 3000 years.

Indeed. My favourite of his works is Outlaws of the Atlantic: Sailors, Pirates, and Motley Crews in the Age of Sail. I made use of it in my previous book, Compassion: A Global History of Social Policy. The pirates whom he discusses practised an early form of social insurance in the modern period.

I've written, co-written, or co-edited 14 books. I've sold 170,000 books, mainly in Canada! I did a booklet on the general strikes of 1919, focusing on the province of Alberta where I live.
