Using a stool does seem to help the scale make more sense - but still thinking on this.

Tables are 700- 900mm high so older tables or folding out can seem small. Could change how the table is constructed eg boards on wooden crates so sizing is less of a worry - a make shift setup out of multiple use items. Props are looking neat.

Carl, this is a stellar idea and really adds to the narrative (1930s explorer's microscope, setup likely in a tent somewhere remote) - I tried this out with a simple block out, and even as is, it looks way better, so I am going to swap out the foldup table with this. I'd say the table looks fine, for me it's the microscope that looks big. Or maybe it's because of the angle because it seems a bit big compared to the human. Might be a different type but mine was around 30cm and you had to bend your upper buddy to look through it (if that helps)

That is a great call out, thank you! I really tried to scale the microscope earlier this week to what microscopes of this era were sized at. I will try to scale the microscope slightly lower, make the table tad deeper, or adjust the lighting slightly. Just to do some comparisons of what feels right.
