Binding the majority is, in part, done in order to frighten them on what will happen to them, should they decide to step out of line against the bullying group.

Stand up & be counted. There is nothing bullies fear more than being stood up to.

I used to teach history to Dublin boys. My goal was to ensure that they understood the evil of the Holocaust. I’ve met the odd student years later & they remember the day I took them through the crimes of the camps. I remember how they reacted.

None could understand why no one would do anything. I made it clear any country was capable of what happened in Nazi Germany. We are seeing the repeat of such a process with the persecution & criminalisation of trans kids & adults. The Nazis did that too.

These Irish boys couldn’t understand why no one took the Holocaust victims in, in their countries & why no one stood up & refused to accept the situation. I explained the politics of the period & the role of scapegoating & the fear of ordinary people that they would be targeted too.

I don’t think that’s true. The people who hate trans & other Queer ppl do so out of their own inadequacies or with cynical purpose to further their own power. It is those who are indifferent, apathetic, scared, intimidated or otherwise ignorant of trans ppl being human who we need to reach out to.

Sure, I think ignorance combined with feeling not good enough is toxic potentially in this scenario. And think all people, not just the low hanging fruit, need persuasion that people can control their own bodies when it comes to feeling in the wrong body, within reason
