teams(ms graph) API is now much more open than the slack API. You cannot justifiably deny a data owner (customer) access to their content if they want to provide it to a 3rd party, even if that 3rd party is irresponsible with it. That’s the customer’s prerogative, not the service provider’s.

Admins can still download backups and give them to a third party. What’s being disallowed here is scraping it all off the API. That lets individual users provide it to a third party; in an enterprise context they are not the owners of the data.

i’ll add that once data transformations are applied, the original permissions structure is not necessarily valid. i.e. topics modeled across a workspace that derive from unpermitted content, but which do not reveal the specifics of such content. The customer can decide if the use is acceptable.

You can say that all day long but if a data subprocessor has a leak that’s a customer issue for us. Especially if we’re tacitly or explicitly promoting it as an integration.

right bit isn’t the solution there due diligence? Both for you as a promoter and for the customer? like, insuring your/customer data is only handled by trustworthy sub-processors is something every org must take responsibility for.

Like it’s fine for Slack to have a preferred partner list and an approval-only marketplace where they vet vendors that become associated with their brand. They can even claim the unvetted vendors are risky and discourage them. But IMO asserting power over potential all end uses is a bridge too far.

I would assume they do still have preferred partners allowed to use this API, but don’t know for sure.

My view having tried to vet some of these vendors is I don’t trust any of them, even the big ones, and I have told our CSMs to discourage their use.

Wait, are you sure Slack isn't allowing third party access to real-time search? The linked article says it does.

The issue, as I understand it, is that if you're someone like Glean, you also want to build your own index and that is explicitly forbidden now.
