Donnarumma didn’t score 3 goals or create a bunch of other good chances. They were good everywhere, and we are still lacking enough quality/creativity up front
They also didn’t create a bunch of good chances lol. They had 2.8 xG across two matches and 0.75 of it was from two chances that were offside but not ruled out because their shooters missed
They were also leading the whole tie outside of 3 minutes, so had less need to attack then we did but did create good opportunities where they didn’t get a shot away. Hit the bar, missed a pen, could easily have been worse than better as far as scoreline
Yeah fair enough, they did stop attacking up 1-0 didn’t they 🤨 lol why are you in such a hurry to boost them and discredit Arsenal, is it because it makes your point truer?
I also think the fact PSG have been around the final stages of the CL for a long period of time also showed. City took years to get to win the competition with far more investment than us. Big improvement on our side vs how we went out again Munich last year.
Experience is definitely a big deal. You could even see that in the way some Arsenal fans were talking about playing at the Bernabeu, but that type of match should be a 3-4 times a year thing for a club of this stature
Not really, I’m just saying I don’t buy that we’re just unlucky or just lost because of Donnarumma. We did well with what we have but lack quality/depth in attack and have for a bit. Combined with some weak defending in moments and we’re out
Isn't this the point though? Better forwards overperform their xG and make it happen in the big moments and you guys only have one top forward. E.g. from my club, Barnes scores at least one of the Trossard/Martinelli chances in leg 1. Not about the GK if the finish is right
I like Barnes, he is good in this situation. Here he is this season, I count 3 from 7 comparable opps, and this is above average. It’s not just about xG though, using psxg and our eyes we can judge how well taken the shots are. Sometimes a fwd shoots well and its saved anyway
I’ve covered in other posts that Arsenal and PSG had similar post-shot xG for the tie, meaning they shot similarly well, and that’s without adjusting for things like shots that are shinned or deflected en route to goal
For me stats are 1/2 the story. Psxg presumably doesn't take into account if a finish is predictable (GM) or if their touch took them wide and they lack pace to get a better angle (LT). Also for Barnes, are all those shots 1-1? Better forwards = more goals and your forwards are 100% the problem imo
Martinelli is outproducing Anthony Gordon despite Newcastle having a better attack, how do you rate Gordon? Those factors you’ve named will weigh into the player’s ability to put a shot into an area that is typically a goal, so it actually does reflect in psxG. A predictable shot will have low psxG
