A force of allied French under Armand Louis de Gontaut, duc de Lauzun, descended on the town shortly after, incensed that the Rangers had made off with their single light cannon after rather carelessly leaving their baggage train unguarded. (You can imagine my GM glee!)

The battle decided, Simcoe and Lauzun ended up crossing sabers in a duel over a lady, Charlotte Lee (of the Virginia Lees) who Simcoe had rescued from some tavern ruffians but who nonetheless wished to be escorted home by Lauzun.

Though he lost the battle, Lauzun won the duel and the fair lady’s hand. (We got a photo of the two men charging each other, but then things got so tense no further pictures were taken!)

Have I mentioned I love Sharp Practice? It feels very proto-RPG at times, like how I imagine Braunstein games.

As it turned out, the cannon proved decisive in the battle, stopping the French in their tracks and setting up a rather devastating cavalry charge from the British Light Dragoons. Simcoe and his men got away clean, and now Lauzun is chasing them back towards the British lines.
