You know WHY I wouldn't do any of those things? Because doing any of that shit to someone you love makes you feel gross and disgusting. Because if you LOVE YOUR FAMILY, you'd never WANT to do that.

Because the most basic, platonic, bar-on-the-floor amount of love forbids that kind of behavior.

I'm not saying that I don't expect and hope for consideration in return -- that when I'm sick, someone will bring me soup, and that when I'm in a particularly busy season, my family will help pick up that slack, etc. But expecting a mutuality of love is normal. These entitled behaviors are not.

I've lost all of my big-eyed naivety from years of hearing in the church and in the world that men are just so overburdened by the weight of the responsibility they bear, and they deserve so much honor and credit for bringing home a paycheck and giving their families crumbs of attention. Pfffft.
