It was out of print for a while so I used to keep a stack of paperbacks of it to give to friends, if you have an older copy, stick with it, the newer translation is not as good and changes Guido’s name to Gigi which does not compare to Guido Guide imo.

when i transferred into engineering school from community college (where I was taking 12 hours each semester) fell out my chair with how many hours they were asking of freshmen. also why i had to do extra laps and spend extra money.

Yeah exactly. Standardized testing has forced people for decades to just memorize what they need to memorize without engaging with it deeper, which leads to people effectively using a forklift to lift weights. The goal isn't to make the weights go up, it's to build muscle!

I remember hitting an absolute WALL in calculus in high school because we didn't really learn the concepts behind like sine and cosine and logarithms, which was how I remembered literally anything and retained it. And I only learned more anecdotally from compsci friends much later on.

Yeah. I genuinely didn’t get that stuff until I started working with electronics and saw a sine wave describing AC voltage pulled off a rotating generator. Until then, it had never clicked that this was a description of a real thing.
