I highly doubt that this will devolve into open warfare but the odds are in our favor. Unlike the Wehrmacht with Hitler, the US military isn't blindly loyal to Trump nor are they going after an enemy that has been dehumanized. We also know the weaknesses of our military thanks to the Middle East.
