The thing is and this isn’t my field of expertise…but if Garcia is dead, I don’t believe there’s any defamation case available for his relatives to pursue. Can’t defame the dead as the saying goes.
Now his wife could get Bondi based on what Bondi has said about her, but that’s going to be limited.

she effectively is immune. The federal government would certify that she was acting in her official capacity. This would lead to the government to be substituted in her place. And the federal government can’t be held liable for defamation. So the case would go to federal court and get dismissed.

They wouldn’t have the same immunity but I think you would have very long odds of establishing liability based on what actual government officials say about a legal matter.

This is meaningfully different from the dominion matter.

Not defamation, but her office represents a client “the United States” adverse to him in litigation, which imposes a duty to be truthful in statements, even to 3rd parties (all of us). If the DOJ has evidence he’s not a gang member, she’s violated the rules of ethics and is subject to disbarment.
