Star Trek: The Motion Picture: As great as it was seeing the old gang back together, this was a ponderous paced and overlong tribute to 2001. Some very interesting sequences and it looked just terrific but it really needed a jolt.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan: Great visual effects, pacing, poignancy and introspection are the backbone of one of all time great blockbusters. Montalban an all time great villain. The reckoning comes for us all. Just wonderful.
Space Cowboys. The old guard is vital again in a tremendously entertaining sequel. It doesn't have the epic scope of Khan but it makes up for it in a thrilling finale and a fine villain. Hits those mythic beats by the end. Really enjoyed.
I liked the bit where Khan put the bug in Chekov's ear and it started munching its way into his cerebral cortex. Good film to watch just before bedtime.
It’s a thing of rare beauty, Jay. Not just my favourite Trek film, but one of my favourite sci-fi films full stop. Ageing, regret, love, mortality. Jim’s reading glasses. And that devastatingly beautiful & heartbreaking finale. Not to mention the sensational score. Just adore it.
A lot of great lore around the making of this. First big outing for a lot of the crew, on a fraction of the budget of the first one, keeping Roddenberry out of the way, story leaks.
It's a remake of The Changeling padded out into a feature length movie. Cut it down to about 45 minutes and it's not a bad TOS episode. I think there might even be an edited version out there somewhere.
