It's pretty amazing to be a Star Wars fan when you're on a platform that has a mature mentality, and not a platform that has chuderry brats crying about a woman adopting the Skywalker name.

Rey calling herself a Skywalker was lame. I don't think her being a woman has much to do with it. "Some how, Palestine returned" was probably the lamest thing imaginable though. Sorry man, StarWars has changed a lot, some better, some way worse.
Still a Star Wars fan but the new ones just didn’t have the same magic to me. I don’t care about Rey taking the name, it just didn’t feel as compelling or alive. Fun? Absolutely; space opera? No.
don't worry i, too, suffer from people concentrating on the first half of my sentence when my point is on the second half.
however I ask that you understand that I never had a twitter and the mysoginists there do not concern ME, whereas letting people know that star wars is for youngsters does.
Nobody was crying about a Woman adopting the Skywalker name. The Disney Star Wars Trilogy was just terrible. It was not planned at all, they did not had a roadmap, they just came up with a story as they go. George gave them a roadmap on were to go and they thought they could do better.
The best way I've heard it put is that sci-fi is a grocery store. You go in and buy what you want, but when you see a kind of snack you don't like on the shelf, you just leave it there for others to enjoy instead. You don't stand next to it and berate anyone who tries to put it in their own cart.
I don't dislike Rey. But the new trilogy was just subpar in story telling and consistency compared to the other two trilogies. Rogue one was pretty good tho, so they can clearly still make good movies but the trilogy was just not it.
I only wish there’d been more onscreen time between her and Luke/Leia—give that “found family” message they were going for (which I actually like despite hating TRoS overall) more weight, y’know?
If there’s ever a TCW-style show between TLJ and TRoS, the Rey/Leia relationship HAS to be a big focus.
For real, Facebook and Twitter turned me off from Star Wars so badly. Like it's going to be a while before I come back, much to the detriment of the stories as I haven't been watching or anything in the realm of Star Wars.
I mean, I still don't like it. But having rewatched the sequels, I think I find I don't like the way Rey showed she'd taken the name. It felt forced and made the moment feel off.
I did think it was a bit weird that they made that message very clear, then had her decide to change her last name. I was like “wait, didn’t you just say…”. Would have been neat to have her own it.
Why did we never meet Mara Jade though? Always was lost on that in the movie. Then I know she took the name to honor her mentors, but then I felt like the movie just felt out of whack, nothing to her being a woman. Just the movie felt flat. Idk just me, no disrespect to your opinion btw.
It's kind of frustrating. I'll say "I didn't like how they handled Luke in TLJ" and some guy will reply yelling about feminists and the fall of the West or whatever. Dude all I said was that I didn't like the movie.
On the plus side, it's a great way to filter out trogs. If their criticism is about the poor writing or confusing plot, they're probably worth talking to about it. If they just start screeching about women, then just block and ignore them, guilt free.
The Skywalker name STARTED WITH A WOMAN. Shmi Skywalker was the one who gave Anakin that name! Shmi was the one who started it all and gave up her child so that he could live a better life away from slavery!
The replies on other platforms to almost anything from Star Wars / Marvel that doesn’t have a male lead is depressing. I like the incel deterrent this platform seems to have
Give it time, once Skeleton Crew comes out we're bound to see a bunch of 50 year old men complain about it not being their star wars. Spot on, it's star wars aimed at young people, just like it was when you were a kid.
♂️ or ♀️ or ⚧️, Rey was just not a well written character. Luke and Anakin failed and lost a bunch, Rey just cruised to glory, didn't even get a hand cut off!
Ultimately, it comes down to Disney getting lazy, knowing that the movies will be profitable and neglecting to actually plan the story out.
Luke the water farmer destroys the Death Star the first time flying a fighter in space. Also has numerous gun battles where he out shoots masses of professional soldiers. He literally cruises to glory in the entire first movie. Let alone the secret father AND the incestuous Jedi secret sister.
To be fair, they did mention a few times that he’s a talented pilot, so at least we know he’s flown before, something the new sequels didn’t bother to establish. Also, Leia posits, and Tarkin confirms, that they had been allowed to escape, which could be why the stormtroopers seemed so inept
He doesn’t cruise to victory either. He’s whiny, immature, and impulsive. He gets captured/beaten/nearly killed at multiple points in the movie and has to get rescued by his friends (Tuskens, cantina, garbage smasher, Death Star attack, etc). If he had solved those problems himself, that’d be boring
Hell, even at his full strength in ROTJ he gets fucking zapped so badly by Palps that he's literally begging for his life to his abusive evil father. He's only alive because Vader saved him. Rey has something similar in TLJ but she's never truly beaten by the bad guys like Luke was.
Yeah, Luke gets his ass handed to him a bunch. Other than his latent force powers, his real strength lies in his resilience and having friends who care about him. On his own, he would have died several times over.
Also, Luke's heroism is mostly tied to his willingness to brave danger to act selflessly for others. He goes out of his way to rescue Leia because she needs help.
He doesn't actually use the force until the last few minutes of the movie. It was built up over the movie and finally paid off.
I love SW but it's consistently flawed. A talented driver and a fighter pilot are not the same. Storm troopers are consistently inept in all three films. It also ignores that Luke makes a sudden character change from arrogant/complainer/spoiled to hero in an instant.
You're misrepresenting ANH and Luke's character arc in bad faith to try to defend Rey's badly written character in the sequels.
Luke has been popular and loved for nearly 45 years because he was a well written character. Rey will be forgotten in 45 years.
He gets treated like a farm boy by pretty much everyone the entire movie until pretty much the very end. Leia calls him short, Han makes fun of him to his face, obi-wan doesn't tell him the truth about his dad. He sucks at using a lightsaber. You're purposely misrepresenting the movie.
Rey is a protected descendant of the dark side. She doesn't have skills (she barely does anything solo in her first film). Palpatine is enhancing her so she can return and he can kill her love turning her to the dark side.
Yes, it has nothing to do with a mary sue protag or the bad writing and character design. 100% "chuds" and incels. All their fault. Gotta blame them. Nothing else.
I think it's a brilliant time to be a SW fan. Mandalorian is my favorite SW since the OT - and yes, that includes S3, S3 was awesome - Jedi FO and Jedi Survivor are possibly the best SW games ever, and shows like Ahsoka, Kenobi, Tales, and Acolyte have all been fun.
The first 2 of the recent trilogy were good watches but under scrutiny the fact they switched directors didn't help the overall congruence of the trilogy. The writing was typical for Hollywood so it's to be expected but alot was left on the table with the supporting cast and the third was lacking
Yeah, maybe also a scar down the face that nearly took out one eye...Some black clothing would be hot too! 😈🤤
Both Anakin and Luke looked SO much hotter wearing all black and 1 leather glove! If Rey wants to be a Skywalker, she should LOOK like a real Skywalker!
Honestly I opened my mouth once about loving new Star Wars content and had a subreddit down my throat. It’s refreshing to be on a platform and community of positive folks
I've not used reddit in years. Quite frankly that place is horrible so stay away. Bluesky is lovely and I feel at home here and appreciated, like I appreciate everyone here. It's refreshing to find a platform that feels like you are actually getting support. Love it 😊
This place is my home now. I still post at the other place but merely Star Wars gifs and photos. I don't really engage in anything else. It's too toxic but there are still good people there.
Rey calling herself a Skywalker is the least of the sequel trilogy's problems.
The root problem was that Disney didn't actually plan out the trilogy beforehand. I'm not saying anything new, I know, but it's weird that people focus on that instead of the bad writing at the core of it.
I really don't like the sequels, or the direction Disney has taken Star Wars as an IP.
With that said, Rey Skywalker is the least offensive thing about the new trilogy aside from some fun new visual designs.
In terms of flawed followups to the OG three, the Prequels are still my guilty pleasure.
It appears that the trolls realized that explicitly political threads are bait that will get them mass blocked.
Because they're now going after soft targets, like fandom threads.
Same rules apply; report if egregious, block, do not engage. They get off on engagement. Leave them frustrated.
Not only that but the way this place works they only get further attention through engagement. Don't even reply. Just report if required and block. Don't give them the oxygen.
Funny isn't it. It's always what we experienced growing up that has more of an impact on us. I have fond memories as a child being allowed to stay up late around Christmas when the original star wars films were on. Star wars toys, lego, books etc
Personally I think the Star Wars movies are all about the same quality wise. I think people who think the OT are some masterpiece in writing are strictly blinded by nostalgia. If anything episode 7 or 8 has the best writing.
Another star wars fan? Awesome! What do think of the theory floating around that might see the new mortis gods assembled in the next season of Ahsoka. With anakin as "the father" ahsoka as "the daughter" and, God i hope, Subject 1138(starkiller) as "the son"
Luckily the fandom I was apart of on Twitter were nothing like this, they were open to discussing all things but could sniff someone emulating a videos opinion from a mile away lol
I think there is a difference between pointing out how one might have told the story differently or pointing toward plot holes or cartoonish special effects is one thing. It is the attacking and trashing them with vitriol and hate. The overarching story was great. The universe building superb. They
Did have their problems though. And it should be fine to talk about that. It’s the malicious hate for the movies that turns into attacks on anyone who enjoy them or the people that made them that is toxic and over the line.
On here I can actually say TLJ is my favourite of the main movies, or that Solo is my favourite of them all! It's great! I love seeing positivity and people acting normal about each other's opinions!
TLJ is amazing. Like I can understand people’s dislike for the casino scene but at the same time overall the theme that you don’t have to be a Skywalker to be hero or a Jedi is amazing. The movie is great as a whole.
I was actually super excited that Rey & Kylo were gonna throw away the Jedi/Sith stuff and take a 3rd option, but then they didn't. That would have been bold and interesting to see.
Admiral Holdo was a shitty commander tho. Her subplot was unnecessary and dumb.
I was really really hoping we would just move away from the Skywalkers and it be about that a hero can be anyone. Of course episode 9 “the search for many Mcguffins” decided to undue any good writing that happened previously. Yeah I can understand not liking the Admiral Holdo story.
I honestly would have been interested in watching the trilogy if Rian Johnson was in charge of all 3 movies. His other movies are very solid. He just got fucked over by Disney and their giant TroS retcon.

Oscar Isaac: NOPE!
(also, your spellchecker changed that to Palestine, which is unfortunately fitting 😶)

Me: I mean, Andor and RogueOne are way better than those Ewok movies and cartoon of the classic era, or the Holiday Special, and Mando... WAIT, SIX!?!
Call'em as I see'em.
Also a word from Rick and Morty doesn't make you cool. Don't use the word chud, ya look dumber than usual.

Them: Yeah it did!
Me: It was like an 11-year-old wrote it, the plot points came out of nowhere and--
Them: SKYWALKER CAN'T BE GIRL!!!!!
Me:
Me, an hour later: *slowly dies inside as a bunch of chuds unironically agree, cuz derp... 😭
It's kinda funny in a way because they've turned into the people we used to make of.

I just like saying it.

Grumpy Old Men “maybe””
-sincerely a Clone Wars fan
So many people only want to whine and talk conspiracy theories.
There is plenty of Star Wars that I love, and want to talk to people about. From Clone Wars to KOTOR, from Rogue One to Wraith Squadron.
Harrison Ford: *grumbles incoherently in the background...
Admiral Holdo was a shitty commander tho. Her subplot was unnecessary and dumb.
There is only passion
