We were lucky enough to have our YouGov/The Economist poll in field when the US bombed Iranian nuclear facilities. You can see the partisan realignment in real time

Well we have the new text from Senate Budget, and we did indeed see the high water mark in the Finance text. The latest text is much worse: back to placed in service by and of 2027, same onerous and draconian FEOC requirements, NEW excise on tax on wind and solar.

One out of every five articles from a magazine with “New York” in its name now is like “meet the young women with some surprising ideas — such as dropping out of college to have 15 babies, wearing low-cut sundresses, and insisting that sunscreen and vaccines are dangerous.”

“We’re on it”? What do you mean “we’re on it”? DRILLING FOR OIL ISN’T SOMETHING THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY DOES. EVER. WHAT ARE WE DOING. *throws things*

Amazing. NYT has more confirmation that Trump's decision to bomb Iran was motivated in large part by the way the Israeli strikes were "playing" on Fox News, which drove him to want credit for it

We are in the midst of a huge decline in murder rates, in cities with progressive mayors and more conservative ones. jasher.substack.com/p/why-i-thin...

"The world's richest man logs onto the platform he bought to yell at the AI he had built for fact-checking conservative mega-influencer Catturd2" is a sentence so stupid that future history books may just skip this decade.

I wish people would stop describing things that are indisputably provable as a matter of fact as "controversial." People not liking a fact doesn't mean the fact is controversial. Reality is not malleable around our beliefs and it shouldn't be. We need to stop acting like it is.

A Virginia guy hunted a Latino man, cornered him, questioned him, and then shot him and his friend, because he assumed the guy was an undocumented immigrant. He was radicalized by Fox News etc. and, of course, Trump. www.wric.com/news/local-n...

You are literally repeating a false claim about USAID funding that comes from Republican supporters of Donald Trump and Elon Musk. It is surreal and shameful to see people who claim to be leftists unthinkingly parroting Republican lies about American aid. www.politifact.com/factchecks/2...

Hours after @pbump.com posted this today, ICE updated its figure to 500%.

Reminder that Democrats are in general unpopular not because Democratic policies are unpopular but because a lot of Democratic politicians don't seem to actually advocate for those policies.

The article frames Skrmetti as a poor strategic gamble by activists. In reality, Tennessee passed a categorical ban applicable solely to transgender adolescents which was framed in sex-based terms. The choices were (a) challenge it or (b) concede defeat in advance and abandon trans teens nationwide.

This framing is beneath contempt. The Christian right and MAGA launched an unprecedented assault on the civil rights of a tiny minority and successfully weaponized the pseudoliberal establishment - led by the NYT - to provide it with a medical controversy pretext that doesn’t actually exist.

The only reason Republicans have a reputation as "fiscal hawks" is that the press refuses to tell the public basic facts about what they do when they are in office.

Important context to the Supreme Court ruling is that Tennessee only has one gender clinic for kids and it performs 5 top surgeries per year. This entire "debate" is about a phenomenon — large numbers of kids being rushed into hormones and surgeries — that doesn't exist. apnews.com/article/heal...

The Alt National Park Service account calls itself the official "resistance" team of the US National Park Service. With 887k followers, is one of the biggest accounts on Bluesky. It is the 11 most followed account according to some trackers. This thread will dive into its activity. 🧵 1/x.

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

“It should be illegal for you to be mean to me and legal for me to kill you” is basically the Republican platform.

Would be amazing to get a single piece of media on this topic centered on the right's firehose of bigotry and misinformation rather than "the trans rights movement's shortcomings" www.nytimes.com/2025/06/17/o...

I don’t think the political press is really equipped to deal with a gutter shithead like Mike Lee being in a position of power. Basically a right-wing engagement farming account in every way, except for the fact that he’s also 1 of 100 U.S. senators. Troubling!

It's pretty notable that mainstream, establishment discourse never ever ever considers giving liberal politicians credit for crime reductions. It's almost axiomatic that if crime goes down under a center-left leader it's either unremarked upon, or must be driven by something else.

Trump team is doing literal information warfare around intensified political violence and Democrats are still confirming nominees and cooperating on bipartisan legislation

In both the UK and US, a counter-extremism task force (e.g. the FBI) will release analysis of propaganda designed to inspire the mass killing of minoritised people, then Republicans or Tories will complain these guidelines precisely describe their rhetoric, then the analysis gets memory-holed

As the public waited for more information, conservatives spun a profile of a far-left Tim Walz ally who assassinated Democratic lawmakers over immigration.

"According to our back-of-the-envelope math, that puts total attendance somewhere in the 4-6 million people range. That means roughly 1.2-1.8% of the U.S. population attended a #NoKings Day event somewhere in the country yesterday." www.gelliottmorris.com/p/no-kings-d...

Essential reading (by @jasonstanley.bsky.social) for every American. The media, aided by a handful of reactionary academics and compliant university administrations, has sold the public a huge lie about wokeness on college campuses, enabling the extreme right. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Don't let them lie to you about Senator Padilla. DHS is claiming the agents DID NOT KNOW he was a senator. He CLEARLY says (BEFORE he is tackled and cuffed) "I am Senator Alex Padilla and I have a question for the secretary."

And if you're worried about violence this weekend, imagine how much worse it'll be if there's no immediate action to hold *these* assholes accountable. If they get away with roughing up a senator at a press conference, then protesters will be killed. It's a straight line.

We don't need answers, Senator Schumer, we already know what happened: forceful abuse of power violating rights by an anti-Constitutional regime, in defense of other abuses. Maybe working with and appeasing them, or doing nothing and hoping they'll go away on their own, isn't the best strategy.

Seems noteworthy to me that they're admitting that they're sending in the military because of the state government's ideology!!!

NEW FROM CBO: brutal distributional analysis of House GOP "Big Beautiful Bill" On avg the bottom 30% of households get poorer under the GOP bill Avg gets little - and are worse off if you include tariffs This'd be the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in history

Hi, pardon me, hello: mass protest in the face of fascism is a great idea and in fact the only thing that works to actually combat it. anyone saying otherwise is an idiot. sorry, i cannot anymore with this shit. do the fucking reading!

wow that's crazy. and with all this salient immigration discourse too. wow

“The opposition to climate action is using anti-trans rhetoric to build its base” A new analysis shows 80% of anti-trans groups have financial links to the fossil fuel industry, @yessfun.com reports

I’ve never forgotten this picture from 2016 and how it completely reshaped my understanding of how the media covers protests.

All the people I still know in LA laugh and laugh when they hear that "Los Angeles is burning." I made a couple of maps to show just how tiny and localized the protests are. GOPers are working really hard to make an excuse for declaring martial law. People should be very wary of that.

Sometimes it is interesting going back in time what people said when the pandemic was about to start. >5 years on, and this is still a debate of circumstancial evidence and likelihood versus projection and conspiracy. It harms science. archive.is/202303100...

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

The spin has already started as if our entire city is in chaos. I went from Burbank all the way over to Koreatown on surface streets tonight and jackshit was happening. The CNN coverage makes it look like world war 3 and that’s what Trump wants so he and his fucking goons can come shoot Angelenos.

Pretty egregious error from this book: The authors say Swedish deaths fell by 2.3% during the pandemic, proving that the country's lax lockdown strategy worked. But they misread their source: Mortality is only down if you remove the COVID deaths. research.abo.fi/ws/portalfil...

This month's bonus episode is about the rise of the lab leak theory from an unfounded theory promoted by right-wing cranks to an unfounded theory promoted by prominent liberal journalists.

I can't stress enough how wrong and disingenuous the most recent wave of COVID revisionism is. The *only period* when Democratic counties had higher death rates was April-May 2020. From June 2020 onwards, Republican laxity and denialism were the most powerful force driving deaths.

New piece! Media coverage of Kilmar Abrego Garcia hurt Trump, not Democrats. An actually data-driven analysis of some stale conventional wisdom. Alt title: Matt Yglesias is wrong about Democrats and Abrego Garcia🧵

Again, these groups are attempting to retcon the 2024 election *we all lived through* to claim Dems overly catered to Big Trans or The Groups or whatever. In fact, Republicans—and via them the media—are the ones who zeroed in on the culture war while we focused on economic issues. We still lost.

The lead anecdote is bullshit - Kamala outperformed her overall margin dramatically in areas where both campaigns were on the air. The they/them ad wasn't effective (or at least was ineffective compared to Kamala's ads)

I think this comes from a good place but I disagree. A common thread in deradicalization stories is stigma: Once people start losing friends and jobs they reconsider their beliefs. Obviously you should try to be nice to people but you also need to draw a line where you won’t engage anymore.
