Was it a true like for like comparison: were all patents filed for the same target at about the same time?
comment in response to post
So maybe they just file earlier, which may be necessary when working in a crowded IP space

Firstly, having done in vivo tests is not a necessary requirement for filing a patent. AI startups are not using AI to bypass in vivo testing, at least not the companies who have a firm footing in med chem reality.

I don't have access to the paper so have to speculate having worked for both big pharma and an early AI startup.

In Dutch that would be core vocabulary. I am trying to think what an English equivalent would be, egg cosy maybe

Imagine what happened when I tried again and ordered a book from German amazon to be delivered to a local locker, which turned out to be a shop. And the package had my name on it, not hers. So they refused to hand it to her. She got it in the end

German bureaycracy, got to love it. When my daughter studied in Hamburg I tried sending her a £9.99 book from the UK, this is how it came back a month later.

Me too. My apologies for co-founding a company that attracted $800M investment, mostly from outside the UK, and employed 500 people at its peak. First we were insulted as citizens from nowhere and queue jumpers by the Tories, now this.

Assuming few if any death by one variant after it has been displaced by the next, omicron is the third deadliest? Alpha: 124k - 49k = 75k, Wuhan = 49k, omicron: 180k - 138k = 42k. I don’t think area under curve is relevant, the y-axis already shows cumulative deaths

As far as I know the last English king was Harold II and he was killed by the French in 1066. After the French came the Tudors (Welsh), the Stuarts (Scottish), a Dutchman, followed by a lot of Germans although they were British, not English. Random knowledge courtesy of #horriblehistories

Congrats on the new job, seems like a perfect match. I had a look and yes the JPO on LinkedIn is looking more streamlined than the JPO I have witnessed in real life. But who looks like their LinkedIn profile pic anyway?

The answer to all the Why do/don’t British X have/do Y is always ‘historical reasons’ , usually forgotten but if it was good enough for my gran it must be a good thing

Hopefully the rest of the journey will be boring again

It’s moving again. Meanwhile I just caught a man who fainted. He is ok now

I get a bit annoyed by the automatic ‘please return the tray’ message on a loop

Weekly fire alarm testing is weekly training in ignoring fire alarms. At one of my previous employers the usual 'this is a test' announcement was forgotten. It took forever for people to realise and vacate. Fire brigade scrambled and pretended it was intentional, of course it was.

It's debatable whether a membrane is a solvent, and whether drugs as small but some drug molecules make intramolecular hydrogen bonds while passing through membranes. Example: pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a...

At my wife's university (UK) the process goes like: select candidate, interview on site and all, then and only then she is allowed to seek out the multitude of people who needs to sign off WITHOUT having been part of the hiring process.

I am probably missing a cultural reference here. But irradiating that stuff seems like a good precaution.

It was just a guess, I am not a fungi or amoebae expert. My knowledge is restricted to a few tasty mushroom species that I can find in the local woods

When our children were young we told them St Nic would stop over in Dover and come to Canterbury especially for them

Having walked most of the way I share the pride of what has been achieved and a little sadness that the end of the road has been reached. The Exscientia name may fade away, as are the founders, but the legacy lives on.

Maybe later, I have only just signed up and amstill trying to get the hang of this.
