I've never owned a Mega Drive but I'm getting tempted often by some very cheap (but scabby looking) ones that pop up on marketplace. What I should do is try to swap one of my many SNES or a c64 for one.

I think you might be onto something.

I've got a new GBA shell and IPS screen on order but thought I'd pull it apart and clean this shell anyway. It might get resurrected in the future and gave me a good chance to look inside. Need to replace one shoulder switch that has some rust.

Just saw your name flagged in the video and came to check if you've broke radio silence yet. Congrats. Here's to hopefully good things ahead :)

That was a great event. Out at the car testing facility in Milton Keynes. Sadly the only dev conference I went to before shifting out of games and into vfx when our game got cancelled by our publisher. Was also my first international trip, I had such a good time.

One of my most prized possessions is this Leatherman from Devcon 2K in the UK for the PS2 developer launch. Almost lost it at Heathrow when it was found in my carry on by security but after asking me to show what it was and I unfolded it showing only the pliers, I was waved on.

Not sure about a title, but it made me picture this playing over the end credits of a film.

I look forward to the video filmed directly after that vietnamese coffee. If you're anything like me, I might have to slow the video down to have you back on normal talking speed.

Nice find. I have 2 of those KU-14194HB boards mentioned, one in a silver and one in a rainbow case. The KUs are 7 pin but usually still have the square hole around the power plug. Hard to tell from the photos but the PAL silvers usually have foil stickers that peel off but yours looks like metal?

Can America please just "invent" preferential voting already and be done with it. Regards, Australia.

lawful neutral at home, chaotic good at work.
My wife's choice is a mix of lawful neutral, arranged like lawful evil, but the windows desktop / mouse arrangement is side by side not stacked on top, so I think that's a special kind of evil all to itself.

I think they're slightly the wrong plug size but don't quote me on that. There's also different types incompatible with each other (slightly rare though) just to be extra confusing

Check out what I uncovered today. The rest of the machine was not too revolting like yours but this keyboard - yech!

So with something like Lemmings we're the sprites animated in DPaint or another toolset? Trying to figure out people's workflow for it as I step my way through rediscovering DPaint and other cool tools on the Amiga.

Looked like a lot of fun. Some pretty wild and varied hardware in amongst it all.

Over the last year, I've managed to learn so much about 8 bit computers, expanded my electronics knowledge and gotten half decent at soldering and de-soldering.
I really do get a lot of enjoyment from repairing something that didn't work and bringing it back to it's former glory.

yeah, I've looked at it for a while but never tried to follow it, and with only a couple of machines left unworking in my stash I figured why not now.

After about a year since I bought a car full of commodore gear in one go, I am down to only 1 non-working machine (out of 15)
The last one has been been pilfered by me, as a parts machine for all the others. I'll 'borrow' back the chips and get this working but need a CIA + CPU to complete it

A quick socket install and my one spare 7406 and standing 6510 bought it to life.... boom!
Full diagnostic pass, working SID. All up I think I spent less than hour on this machine. Probably my fastest repair to date.
Sadly now I am down a 6510, my first one out of about 10 machines repaired.

Now the CPU was socketted so I quickly tested it in another machine and sadly it did not work... boo! The good CPU did not however bring this machine to life so the MOS hex inverter came out too (boy was it an ugly solder job from whoever had this before), and yep... pin 8 detected as defective.

So we didn't get very far before we hit our first obvious issue.
The CPU was not coming out of reset. The 556 timer was doing its job (U20) but the Hex inverter (U8) pin 8 was not.

Because I'd been wanting to try it for a while, I decided to follow this neat diagnostic website that I think is just the diagnostic manuals instructions in interactive quiz format.

That's what I'm mostly interested in playing with. I used to do a bunch of 2D animation back in macromedia director of all things, but very quickly down the path of 3D animation (still kind of my role now) but I feel like I missed out on the glory days of 2D pixel animation

I've just been resurrecting an A500 and played with DeluxePaint IV for the first time this week.
I missed it back in the day - jumping straight to Photoshop 3.0 on a Mac circa 1994 while doing a multimedia degree.
If Commodore didn't go bust it might've been a different story.

Definitely counts. I'll need to check my repairs notes, but I think I've only done one shortboard, though I think I have 2 of them. One just worked, I think. Truth be told, I've only repaired 8 or 9 C64s in the 12 months I've been into this. Helps when you buy about 14 in one go 😆

Got any good resources / beginners tutorials for starting out making music on the c64? (or Amiga)
